Additionally, two Boeing 747-400s will be grounded from October onwards for the coming winter. The final farewell to this aircraft type is planned for next year.

In the coming 2026/27 winter flight schedule, the third step will take place with a reduction in the capacities of the Lufthansa core brand as part of the envisaged consolidation of short- and medium-haul traffic across six hubs of the Lufthansa Group. This additional capacity reduction corresponds to five aircraft of the Lufthansa core brand.

De Amerikaanse prijsvechter Spirit Airlines is definitief tot stilstand gekomen nadat een cruciale reddingsdeal van vijfhonderd miljoen dollar op het laatste moment mislukte. Op 2 mei heeft het bedrijf officieel aangekondigd alle activiteiten te schrappen.

Officiële bevestiging van een shutdown
In een officiële verklaring meldt het bedrijf met grote teleurstelling dat alle vluchten per direct zijn geannuleerd en de klantenservice is stopgezet. De shutdown raakt circa 17.000 banen en treft ook duizenden passagiers. Aan de basis van het faillissement ligt het mislukken van een reddingsplan dat lange tijd als laatste uitweg gold. Volgens The Wall Street Journal werd gesproken over een reddingsdeal van 500 miljoen dollar om liquidatie te voorkomen en banen te behouden, maar dat strandde uiteindelijk door gebrek aan steun binnen de overheid. De airline benadrukt trots te zijn op de impact van het ultra-low-cost model in de afgelopen 34 jaar en stelt dat het had gehoopt nog vele jaren passagiers te kunnen bedienen.
