At the same time, a rapidly advancing lava flow emerged from either the summit or a new flank vent on the southern slope of the crater, branching into two main arms flowing around the 2002 craters.
The activity at the time of this update is still continuing. More details will be likely be published by the volcano observatory in the morning.

Intense Strombolian activity suddenly evolved into a weak lava fountain reaching maximum intensity at 20:30 UTC.
This activity generated a volcanic cloud that dispersed to the East-Southeast and formed a volcanic ash depot on the eastern flanks of the volcano.
Ashfall was reported in the village of Fleri. In addition, the eruption forced temporary closure of two sectors at Catania Airport.
A second overflow started at 20:46 UTC.
Explosive activity decreased significantly starting at around 21:00 UTC.

Lava flow expanded from the eastern side of the Southeast Crater toward Valle del Bove, reaching an altitude of about 1.8 km (1.1 miles).
Another small overflow took place at the saddle vent on the southwest side of the crater.
Lava fountain activity ceased at 03:30 UTC and was followed by modest ash emissions which ended at around 06:00 UTC.
The paroxysm was accompanied by usual geophysical signals -- a strong increase in the magnitude of volcanic tremor, whose main source had stabilized under the Southeast Crater, and a rapid decrease at the end of the lava fountain phase; infrasonic signals and soil deformation.

De geleidelijke passage van Stromboliaanse activiteit als lavafontein naar de Zuidoost-krater wordt waargenomen. De eruptieve wolk bereikt een hoogte van ongeveer 5500 m boven zeeniveau. Op basis van het voorspellingsmodel verspreidt de eruptieve wolk die wordt geproduceerd door de lopende activiteit zich in de NO-richting.
De trend van het verhogen van de gemiddelde amplitude van vulkanische tremor zet zich voort binnen het bereik van hoge waarden. Infrasone activiteit nam ook toe, zowel in de snelheid van optreden als in de energie van infrasone gebeurtenissen. Niets bijzonders bij de Etna, die is heel vaak actief. Wel een mooie vulkaan, heb daar een paar keer bovenop gestaan aan de rand van de krater. De schaal is enorm, de krater boven in de berg is giga groot.quote:
