I suddenly noticed the body of a parson lying on the ground in a ruined churchyard. I felt unable to leave him to the mercy of the red week, and decided to bury him, decently.

)De Jeff Wayne versie is gewoon een heel lekker popalbum gebaseerd op het boek van H.G. Wells. De nummers erop zijn tijdloos!

Ik snap niet waarom de War of the Worlds film zo afgekraakt wordt. Het is een goede film uit 1953. Een Sci-Fi classic. Mischien een tegenvaller dat het iets heel anders is dan de Jeff Wayne versie? Daarnaast was alle Sci-Fi voor 2001: A Space Odyssee, van dezelfde kwaliteit.Ik kan horror films makkelijk trekken, maar Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds geeft me nog steed een "unheimisch" gevoel...
Dat "unheimisch" gevoel herken ik heel sterk, maar daar horen de stoomschepen, de stoet vluchtelingen in 19eeuwse dracht en de traditionele soldaatjes met hun opgesierde kostuums onlosmakelijk bij.
Het verhaal heeft (voor mij iig) ook heel sterk de lading van Techniek die een einde aan de wereld maakt zoals die toen bestond. De victoriaanse wereld die medogenloos kapot wordt gemaakt door machines die zo ver van de mensen van toen afstonden dat ze wel buitenaards leken, en erg beangstigend waren.
En dan de briljante uitkomst dat de technische wereld uiteindelijk moet buigen voor de natuur.
