Negotiators Reach Deal ‘in Principle’ on Border Security to Avoid Shutdown

The deal, which would stave off another partial government shutdown at midnight Friday, appears to be a significant victory for Democrats. It came together just before Mr. Trump was about to begin a campaign and “Finish the Wall” rally in El Paso. It still must pass the House and Senate, and secure Mr. Trump’s signature.
The negotiators also agreed to reduce the number of migrants and undocumented immigrants who can be held in detention.
It would allow for 55 miles of new bollard fencing, with some restrictions on location based on community and environmental concerns, according to the two aides, who requested anonymity to disclose details of the negotiations. The is a fraction of the hundreds of miles of steel-and-concrete wall that the president shut down the government over in December.
Democrats’ demand for a limit on how much detention space could be used for unauthorized immigrants arrested within the United States had threatened to derail the negotiations over the weekend, but lawmakers agreed to waive the demand.
Lawmakers announced they had reached the agreement after three private meetings on Monday. It is expected to be finalized as early as Tuesday, well before the Friday deadline when funding would again lapse for a number of federal agencies. Ik vind Trump gewoon incompetent, een leugenaar en een loser. Dat is alles. Maar dat valt toch niet te ontkennen?
Twee jaar terug had hij 25 miljard voor zijn muur kunnen krijgen. Dat weigerde hij. Nu kan hij maar beter 1,3 miljard accepteren, want de andere optie is een veto en weer een Trump Shutdown.
Dus heeft Trump het politieke spelletje gewoon heel slecht gespeeld.
Heeft niets met TDS te maken.
Of beweer je dat 1,3 miljard in plaats van 25 miljard winnen is?

Denk dat Trump de deal pakt en spint als een win. Hij gaat metern een stuk hek laten bouwen en dan mooie foto monentjes ermee doen. Is waarschijnlijk genoeg om zijn achterban tevreden te houden. het is afwachten, voor Trump zou de noodtoestand op dit moment een egowinst zijn maar het kan m ook fataal worden.
Als hij de boel draaiende houdt zal hij misschien nog naar 2020 kunnen strompelen.

Het doet me onwillekeurig denken aan een roman die ik eens heb gelezen over een wat al te ijdele burgemeester in een stadje ergens in Zuid Frankrijk die zich tot doel had gesteld om een standbeeld voor zichzelf te ritselen op het dorpsplein. Die polemiek sleepte zich jarenlang voort omdat zijn directe politieke tegenstander het directe beheer had over uitbestedingen van de bouwvergunningen. Aan het eind van het boek bleek dat de bouw voor zijn monument was begonnen, (mét zijn naam er op) zodat deze burgervader rustig zijn laatste adem kon uitblazen. Later bleek dat zijn politieke tegenstander het bouwwerk als openbaar urinoir had laten ontworpen, en zo geschiedde.
