The new policy, forcing Central Americans to wait in Mexico while their cases are pending in the US, is starting at the biggest crossing along the US-Mexico border.

The policy change means that people who are trying to exercise their legal right to seek asylum will be barred from the US for as much as a year while they wait for their claim to come before a judge. The Trump administration announced its plans to implement the new policy, which it calls the “Migration Protection Protocols” but was known last fall as the “Remain in Mexico” agreement, in a House hearing in December. But its implementation was kept under wraps as the US continued to negotiate with the Mexican government, and as the government shutdown took attention in Washington.
While a DHS official confirmed some details of the plan to Vox, it’s still not clear how Mexico will deal with migrants while they wait for their court dates in the US.
The policy will almost certainly be subject to a federal lawsuit, as other Trump efforts to crack down on immigration without Congress have been. But it will go into effect (at least in San Ysidro) before any lawsuit is filed, and advocates tell Vox they may wait to see how it is being implemented before they sue to stop it.

Het goede: Trump en vele anderen zullen waarschijnlijk eens achter de tralies komen of als ze het bonter maken anders berecht worden.
Het slechte: Men heeft steeds minder, tot absoluut niets te verliezen.
De keuze tussen machtsbehoud en machtsuitbreiding en het einde en gekrenkte ego's is voor demagogen de keuze tussen leven en zelfmoord.
Hoevaak ik elders wel niet hoorde "nu zal het toch wel echt gedaan zijn" bij iedere actie; en ondertussen durfde niemand iets te doen en nam de foute kant z'n milimeters en centimeters van dag tot dag.
Dezelfde hoop zonder middel lijkt in de VS tot eenzelfde uitkomst te lijden. Trump en z'n regime zullen niet adminstratief worden verslagen.

Vanuit zijn eigen positie gesproken heeft hij wel een punt, maar hij vergeet gemakshalve even dat leningen voornamelijk verstrekt worden aan mensen die toch al bulken van het geld. Een onderhoudsmonteur die in een federaal gebouw werkt zal nooit een lening kunnen lospeuteren.quote:

Ik denk dus ook dat Trump niet wist hem gebeurde toen Pelosi hem het bos in stuurde. Hij is gewend dat mensen proberen conflict met hem te vermijden. En Pelosi gaf hem de vinger. En Trump zakte ineen en deed niks meer. Dat is handig om te weten.

Ik vind het 'beat trump' deel in de headline niet de beste keus. Het is een zet en wellicht een sterke. Maar trump heeft ook nog ruime speeltijd en de komende weken gaan bepalen of we nog in het middenspel zitten of richting een hopelijk goed einde gaan. Ik zou dat laatste minder in de verwachtingen vinden liggen dan dat er een kat in het nauw situatie ontstaat. Maar we zullen zien.quote:
