Herlings - When will he be back?

Jeffrey Herlings foot injury has caused a lot of talk within the media, and social media. Of course nobody outside the close knit KTM team really knows when the defending MXGP champion will be okay to race, but if you think about Herlings and previous injuries, then anything is possible.

We spoke quickly to Dirk Gruebel, the team manager of the Red Bull KTM team, and he said, "There isn't much you can say, the surgery is done, now the foot needs to heal and anything else is just speculation."

Just last year, after breaking his collarbone, he was back in action within two weeks from the injury, and won the Indonesian GP. A collarbone injury should take six to eight weeks to heal, and there was Herlings back and winning within two weeks.

The foot injury he has received could take between six to eight weeks to heal, if you are just a normal person. An athlete like Herlings, you can maybe think it’s a month or six weeks, and with five weeks before the opening round in Argentina, you need to think he will be at the opening round, but as I mentioned, anything is possible with a broken bone.

While some bones can heal by wearing a cast, others may require more invasive treatments, such as bone fracture repair. Bone fracture repair is a surgery to fix a broken bone using metal screws, pins, rods, or plates to hold the bone in place. It seems as though this is the treatment Herlings has received for a quicker return time, I would think.

For bone recovery, you can use several different treatments. Provide the body with adequate energy. Check your protein intake, increase anti-inflammatory nutrients, boost your mineral intake and enhance vitamin intake. Of course, we all know that the KTM team always give their riders the best treatment to recover and we all know Jeffrey Herlings is as tough as they come when it comes to riding injured.

Jeremy Van Horebeek fractured his foot back in 2015, and was out for three weeks. Of course every injury is different, but we do know motocross riders often ride with injury, and are some of the toughest sportsmen in the World.

With three weeks between Argentina and the second round in England, it could be that the Dutchman takes the first round off to recover completely. After all, if his 2018 form is anything to go by, he can give away 50 points to Antonio Cairoli and still be back for Matterley Basin and win the championship. He did it in 2018 missing the GP of Italy, and he can do it again in 2019.

quote:
"The International Motorcycling Federation has announced the results of the counter analyzes performed on the petrol sample taken during the last Motocross of Nations. In the control carried out at Michele Cervellin, out of twenty-seven chemical components that make up the fuel "One Solo" was found to exceed the allowed limit.

The Yamaha SM Action Team is based on commercial gasoline and the controls carried out during the 2018 FIM Motocross World Championship have always been in good standing. On the occasion of the American trip it was decided not to bring fuel from Italy, but to use the local one. Unfortunately this choice did not turn out to be correct and this ingenuity led us to the disqualification of our driver and the cancellation of the excellent result obtained by the Italian team.

The Yamaha SM Action Team is first and foremost a united and cohesive group where everyone puts their commitment into achieving the best possible results. Every Sunday we put into practice our best professionalism and above all the passion we have for this sport. In light of what has emerged we can only apologise to all the Italian team and to all those who have rejoiced for the result. Our goal for 2019 will be to commit ourselves as we have always done and to give the Italian fans excellent results."

Herlings aiming for rapid recovery from training injury

The Red Bull KTM star, who won 17 from 19 Grands Prix in 2018, suffered the injury Friday afternoon while training at the Albaida circuit in southern Spain. Herlings immediately flew back to Belgium that day and underwent a procedure with renowned surgeon Dr Claes to fix fractures in his right foot. Thankfully the 24 year old did not sustain damage to his ankle and the whole operation took place swiftly and with success.

Herlings had planned to race the Hawkstone Park International in the UK on February 16th but will now focus entirely on his rehab. He will change his cast next week and is scheduled for a consultation with medical staff in six weeks to determine the full extent of the recovery time, making his participation in the opening round of the FIM Motocross World Championship in Argentina on March 3rd unlikely.

Jeffrey Herlings: “I landed strangely from a jump and was at an angle when I went too close to the track ‘wall’ of dirt at Albaida. I got my foot caught between the bike and the mud. I knew we were in trouble, and we had the operation as soon as possible when we saw the foot was starting to swell. This is obviously not the best way to start 2019 but we’d been riding and preparing well and we have to work now to get back to that level. The good news is that Dr Claes and his team were really happy with how the operation went and I don't have any more pain or swelling. In six weeks time we’ll know more and it all depends how the bone heals. Thanks for all the messages from the fans. We’ll be back strong!”

Dirk Gruebel, MX2 Team Manager & Technical Co-Ordinator, Red Bull KTM: “This is obviously a disappointing situation for Jeffrey and the team and also for fans of MXGP because we all want to see the guys fit, healthy and ready to go for a new season. It is a shame the way the crash happened and if it hadn’t been for that part of the track then maybe he would have escaped without a problem. Jeffrey had some first class treatment by Dr Claes in Belgium to fix the breaks in what is a tricky part of the body for injury. Everything went well though and there is nothing wrong with his ankle or anything else that could have made the injury more serious. Now he’ll look to recover again and come back to MXGP close to the form we saw in 2018.”

Is Herlings welkom in Amerika?

‘Herlings is zo groot.

Gerrit Wolsink in Andere Tijden Sport, zondag 31 maart

Hello everyone,

It’s difficult physically and especially mentally to not be lining up this weekend in Argentina for the opening round as reigning MXGP World Champion. Unfortunately as many of you will know I shattered my foot during a practice crash in Spain preparing for the season. I was feeling great during the winter preparation and I am convinced I was being faster and even better prepared then I was in 2018 when I won 17 out of the 19 rounds and the worsed overall finish was a 2nd.
But being fast is one thing, being at all races is another and for some reason I haven’t succeeded that well in the 2nd part.

As out spoken many times, my biggest competition for the championship is Jeffrey Herlings himself. Aswell as 2014, 2015, 2017 I might have possibly ruined another championship by taking my self out early of a championship hunt due to a injury.

Anyhow, most important for now is to heal up a full 100% and come back strong when the time is there. I feel like I let many people down and in times like this you find out who are really there for you and who are not. Ofcourse there are thousands of friends at the moment when the sky is the limit, but when you get in to the difficult part of your careere aswell as in life the real friends are hard to find, hard times teaches us valuable lessons and hard times will reveal true friends. For now I do not really know yet when i’ll get back to racing and what my plans are for the rest of the season.

I’ve had many injury’s in my racing careere but the last weeks I’ve stept a few steps back from the sport and have given myself a little break to recharge the battery’s for the 2nd part of my careere I would say. I’m more motivated then ever and I would like to thank all my partners, sponsors, family and close friends who are there for me for there support. And we will be back on top before we know. And believe me, we are going to be back

Youthstream announces that the fifth round of the 2019 FIM Motocross World Championship foreseen as the MXGP of China in Shanghai has been rescheduled due to the terrible and exceptional weather conditions that occurred in the Shanghai region for the last 4 months with continuous heavy rain.

The change of date comes after the official requests of the Chinese National Federation CAMF and the local Organizer to FIM and Youthstream. The MXGP of China in Shanghai will be a major event in the annual calendar of the People’s Republic of China and up until today the exceptional non-stop period of rain completely blocked the work of preparing the venue and the build-up of the track. The forecast for the upcoming weeks is the same and those conditions could bring a high risk of cancelling the event.

The weather conditions forced the decision of holding the Shanghai Grand Prix on the 14th and 15th of September.

Meanwhile the organizing delegation for the event joined by high representatives of Shanghai region including Deputy Director General, Shanghai Administration of Sports Mr.Luo Wenhua and Deputy Mayor, Shanghai Fengxian District People’s Government Ms.Yuan Yuan that have made a visit to the MXGP of Patagonia Argentina to experience the racing first hand and prepare to host their own round. Aside from enjoying the racing the delegation has toured the facilities and will take valuable information back to Shanghai as they continue to prepare for what will now be round 18 of the 2019 FIM Motocross World Championship.

Following a heavy fall in Race 2 at the opening round of the FIM Motocross World Championship in Patagonia, Argentina, Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP's Romain Febvre will undergo surgery next week to repair a severely broken ankle.

After taking the first Qualifying Race victory of the season, Febvre was looking in top form to put chase to his second MXGP World Title. The former World Champion finished third in Race 1 and was running in third-position in Race 2 when he unfortunately caught an edge in the wave section and was thrown from his YZ450FM. He landed heavily on his right ankle and was immediately taken to the Medical Centre for examination. While he was cleared from injury in Argentina, he was in an immense amount of pain and decided to see another doctor for a second opinion upon arrival in Belgium, the country in which the Frenchman resides.

Earlier today, the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP star went to the University Hospital Antwerp (UZA) where top Orthopaedic specialist Dr. Geert Peersman confirmed he has broken his Talus (ankle) in two places. The injury requires surgical repair, which is scheduled for Tuesday 12th March, and is expected to take six weeks to heal after the date of the operation.

An update on his return to racing will be shared on www.Yamaha-Racing.com and Yamaha's Official social media platforms when available.

Romain Febvre
Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP Rider
"Sad news today. I broke the Talus bone in my ankle. I feel really sad, not only for myself but for my entire team and all of the people involved. This is how it is; these things are part of our sport. Now I need to focus on getting it fixed with an operation next Tuesday, and then I can start my rehabilitation. I will try to be back on the bike as soon as possible, right now they are saying around six weeks more or less, but even when I get back on the bike I will have lost a lot of time and physical condition with no training. I will see when I am back on the bike how things are going and what I am focusing on, until then I can not say too much. The main goal is to get my foot fixed."

Massimo Raspanti
Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP Team Manager
"Obviously we are really saddened to hear this news, also for Romain. He worked really hard this winter. Things were looking really positive for him. In Argentina he was fast in both practice sessions and then he won the Qualifying Race so we were really excited for the races and the rest of the season. He was riding well in the races, he set the fastest lap of the GP, so he is very unlucky to crash and be in this situation now. Now we will focus on getting him healthy and back to 100% and hope to come back and finish the season strong."

Herlings: "Het was echt lelijk gebroken.

PRADO TO MISS BRITISH GRAND PRIX WITH SMALL SHOULDER PROBLEM

MX2 World Champion and current red plate holder Jorge Prado will not take part in the second round of the 2019 FIM Motocross World Championship this weekend in Great Britain after sustaining a shoulder injury while training.

The 18 year old Spaniard, who won both motos at the season-opener in Argentina, suffered a crash while practicing two weeks ago and complained of a sore left shoulder. Believing the impact to carry no great significance Prado continued to prepare for the event in Matterley Basin this weekend but felt the condition of the joint deteriorate and become more painful.

Further detailed medical examination with renowned surgeon and specialist Dr. Claes in Belgium revealed a haematoma under the left shoulder blade was causing the discomfort. The best course of recovery involves rest, and Prado will return for another check-up on Tuesday 26th for further evaluation ahead of the Grand Prix of the Netherlands at Valkenswaard.

Claudio De Carli, Red Bull KTM Team Manager: “After such a strong start to the season for the team and Jorge it is disappointing for everyone that he and Jeffrey are now missing Matterley Basin and the first European round of 2019. Unfortunately this is part of the sport but, fortunately, it could be worse and we hope Jorge will be back on the bike very quickly. We’re in good shape and we are confident, and we believe this will not be such a big setback for us in what is a long season.”
