Melvin Manhoef vs. Chidi Njokuani to headline Bellator 210



Melvin Manhoef recently re-signed with Bellator and now he has his next assignment.

The 47-fight veteran will meet Chidi Njokuani in the middleweight main event of Bellator 210, which takes place at the WinStar World Casino and Resort in Thackerville, Okla., on Nov. 30. Officials announced the bout via press release Wednesday.

This will be Manhoef’s first fight since being knocked out in the fourth round by middleweight champion Rafael Carvalho at Bellator 176 in April of last year. Manhoef, 42, was making his second attempt to wrest the title from Carvalho, who won a narrow split decision in their first meeting at Bellator 155. He is 2-3 with one no-contest in the Bellator cage, and 30-14-1 (2 NC) overall.

Njokuani (18-5, 1 NC) is competing for the second time at 185 pounds following a successful debut at Bellator 189. The 29-year-old had struggled to make it down to the welterweight limit, competing three consecutive times at catchweights before defeating Hisaki Kato by unanimous decision in his middleweight debut last December. Despite his struggles with the scale, Njokuani has compiled a 5-1 record in Bellator.

Bellator 210 will air live on both the Paramount Network and DAZN, with preliminary bouts airing on both Bellator.com and the Bellator app.

Oké, dus in het kort: Jones heeft supplementen genomen die werden geadverteerd als dopingvrij. Dit waren ze echter niet, blijkt uit laboratorium testen.

Dat is wel mooi, dan kan je fabrikant X steroïden laten maken en in een doosje laten stoppen waarop staat: "dit zijn écht geen steroïden!" en riskeer je maar een fractie van je schorsing. Anti-doping genot .

USADA in de UFC vanaf heden niet meer serieus te nemen. Was ook wel te verwachten met de enorme commerciële belangen. Dit moet ook wel al een tijdje in de pijplijn hebben gezeten aangezien DC het een tijdje terug al had over een rematch met Jones en een gevecht met Lesnar als z'n laatste twee gevechten, en gezien het feit dat Jones vaak in trainingsfilmpjes opdook.

Bizar van Jones. Staat een interessante reactie op reddit over USADA en UFC

Has USADA become too reliant on the UFC's revenue stream? I just checked out their tests for the first quarter testing for this year on their website. My math could be off here but according to their tests, they:

Tested 1693 athletes

Carried out a total of 2285 tests

I quickly loaded into an excel sheet how many of them were MMA athletes and what % of total tests taken were for MMA. Here are the results:

504 athletes from MMA

721 tests for MMA

68 sports tested in total

These are slightly worrying numbers. One single sport, MMA, accounts for:

30% of total athletes tested (29.76%)

32% of all tests done (31.55%)

MMA accounts for 1.4% of the amount of sports tested (1 out of 68)

Bear in mind this is from Q1 2018, so the numbers might not be consistent across the year. I don't have time to do this now as I am at work. But if it is consistent, MMA accounts for around 30% of its service.... anyone will tell you that a client that delivers over 30% of your total business for your company has A LOT of sway.

Toch wel bizar. Mits het klopt natuurlijk

Blackzilians founder Glenn Robinson dead

Glenn Robinson, founder of the famed Blackzilians team, has died of a suspected heart attack.

Robinson’s death was confirmed by his former PR agent, Jen Wenk, who said Robinson passed away Wednesday. Former Blackzilians photographer Ryan Loco also confirmed the passing, which was first reported by MMA reporter Christopher James via Facebook.

MMAjunkie was unable to confirm Robinson’s age at the time of his death.

“I feel awful for his family and daughters and wife,” Wenk said. “He was a wonderful person.”

Robinson, founder of consumer hand tool company Iron Bridge Tools, branched out into MMA after being introduced to UFC veteran Jorge Santiago at American Top Team. He started his own team after Santiago and several well known vets decided to leave ATT. The Blackzilians were formed in 2011 and rapidly grew into an MMA powerhouse, housing several former champions and title contenders, including Rashad Evans and Anthony Johnson.

Robinson also branched into management and MMA apparel, founding Authentic Sports Managment and clothing brand Jaco.

Over the years, a fierce rivalry grew between Blackzilians and American Top Team. The UFC capitalized by filming the 21st season of “The Ultimate Fighter 21” in a team vs. team format, pitting Robinson against ATT founder Dan Lambert. The two clashed frequently on set.

While the Blackzilians bested ATT 7-5 in team matchups, ATT earned more points by winning later in the season. In the show’s finale, Blackzilians rep Kamaru Usman bested Hayder Hassan.

Robinson’s tenure as the head of the Blackzilians wasn’t free of drama. Amid serious health problems, team setbacks and the bankuptcy of Iron Bridge, rumors of the team’s breakup circulated on several occasions, leading to fiery denials from Robinson.

Eventually, the exodus of well known fighters from Blackzilians became public, and Robinson moved to rebrand the team around those that stayed, including Johnson, Usman and Michael Johnson. Robinson also moved to protect his interests, suing former Blackzilians coach Henri Hooft when he started a new facility near the team’s headquarters.

In an interview with MMAjunkie, Robinson spoke about moving on from past conflicts and starting fresh.

“There’s some really good people, and for those people, I want to stay and see through what I started,” Robinson said. “And there’s some people that I don’t have any negative feelings toward, but I just don’t want to work with. This allowed everyone to get their way.”

Recently, Robinson told MMAjunkie that he largely had left the MMA business and was involved only with fighters who had stayed loyal to him over the years. Among them was Johnson, who Robinson considered to be like a son.
