Lekker hoor, een heuse rodelrel
Summer Britcher doet ook niet mee, net als kersvers wereldkampioen Roman Repilov.

At many times in this sport I feel torn between feelings and loyalties. I love this sport, but after too many decisions too many times that disregard 1-the safety of the athletes, and 2- the integrity and fairness of our sport, I have grown a great disdain for the International Luge Federation, and those who make these decisions.
My team was in the first training session here in Winterberg Wednesday morning. After taking our first run we immediately notified our coaches and then the technical director that the track was unsafe to slide on. Our concerns, and the concerns of the rest of the athletes from other nations throughout the day were not taken seriously. We were told that we could choose to not take the runs but we would not get to make up the training. Today, after athletes refused to train, several of the coaches went above and beyond. They worked for several hours attempting to fix the track. But why did they need to do this work in the first place? Why was the track not properly prepared, and why did the International Luge Federation claim nothing was wrong for so long in the face of ALL of the athletes saying the opposite?
I will not race this weekend. I do not believe the track is safe, I do not believe it has been prepared to a World Cup standard, and I do not believe that the International Federation and Winterberg World Cup organisers should get away from this with no consequences. But I have that privilege, I have the support of my organization when I say that I will NOT race in this farce of a World Cup. But many athletes do not, and the people who are supposed to be looking out for the safety of the athletes, and the integrity of the sport are turning a blind eye. I hope that the International Luge Federation will do better in the future, and I hope that the responsible parties will be held accountable.
I thank all of the coaches who took the time and energy to work for several hours selflessly to try to save this race. And I would like to draw attention to the German Doubles teams, the entire Austrian team, and Roman Repilov, who took a brave stand and started this ball rolling by deciding to not compete this weekend. Cheers my friends.
Nou, nu zal de FIL wel eens gaan luisteren, de halve wereldtop doet niet mee en geeft aan dat het onveilig is. Oh wacht, toch niet.

The President of the International Luge Federation (FIL), Josef Fendt of Germany, has announced that it is issuing a penalty to Summer Britcher. The reason for the US athlete’s penalty was her unsporting behaviour towards the FIL during proceedings at the Viessmann World Cup in Winterberg. The FIL Presidium will decide on the exact penalty at a later date but Fendt added that the disciplinary measure was inevitable. Summer Britcher posted a discreditable photograph on social media.
During Team Captains Meeting on Friday (February 22, 2020), Bill Taveres, Head coach of the US team, apologized this behaviour officially.
