The Speyer wine bottle (or "Römerwein") is a sealed vessel, presumed to contain liquid wine, and so named because it was unearthed from a Roman tomb found near Speyer, Germany. It is considered the world's oldest known bottle of wine.

This little box comes from Scotland, and was made especially to commemorate the coronation day of King Edward VII in 1902. The chocolate passed from the original schoolgirl who abstained from eating it, mother to daughter, until it was donated to the St. Andrews Preservation Trust in 2008. I call the caramels. Ik vind dit een mooi verhaal: een foto uit 1838, met een belichtingstijd van 10 minuten, van een straat. Alle beweging op de straat is verdwenen door die belichtingstijd... behalve links onderin, waar iemand lang genoeg stil stond omdat zijn schoenen gepoetst werden.

Maar voor mijn gevoel klop dit niet, want mensen konden al langer dan de genoemde jaren met elkaar communiceren.
Zelfs vandaag de dag zijn er nog talen die slechts gesproken worden en waar dus geen schrift van bestaat.
Ik wil zelfs zover gaan dat de eerste schrijfsels van de mens geen taal betrof maar rekenkunde.
Aantal vingers, kerfstokjes enz.
Dit vind ik boeiend omdat ik het zo verwonderlijk vind dat zoveel mensen zoveel verschillende talen spreken, met een veelvoud aan plaatselijke dialecten en verschillende schrijfwijzes.
