Toch wel 'het' stukje identiteit van Schotland dat zo goed als aan de reanimatie zit en waar tegenwoordig alleen nog "doe nog eens dat Schotse accent in het Engels" van over is , maar of onderstaand idee / plan het in de praktijk zal gaan halen 'mocht' Schotland ooit onafhankelijk worden is de vraag.

Gaelic will have a 'central place in Scottish public life' if Scotland becomes an independent country.
The pledge is made on the Scottish Government's referendum website. It says: "Gaelic has been a continuing element in Scottish heritage, identity and history for many centuries. Gaelic has official recognition and it is an increasingly visible part of Scottish public life reaching into education, the arts, media and broadcasting.
"In an independent Scotland, Gaelic will have a central place in Scottish public life.
"The most recent Census has demonstrated that initiatives in support of Gaelic have significantly slowed down the decline of the language. Policy and resources would continue to be directed to the priority of increasing the numbers speaking, learning and using the language."
It also claims that the Scottish Government is 'committed' to the continuation of the BBC Alba channel and Radio nan Gàidheal, under the Scottish Broadcasting Service, which would be created if Scotland votes for independence in the September 18 referendum.
Scottish Gaelic is a Celtic language native to Scotland and according to the 2011 census there were 57,375 speakers, equivalent to 1.1 per cent of the population. Back in 1755, there were some 289,798 speakers of the language, or 22.9 per cent of the population.

Of schotland nou wel of niet onafhankelijk gaat zijn, elke taal is een schatkist aan culturele informatie die het verdient om overgeleverd te worden aan de volgende generatie.

Klopt, al klinkt het ook weer niet heel buitenaards en zelfs wel een beetje vertrouwd voor een Europese taal. De harde g komt er oa in voor die men in Nederland ook heeft en verder wel leuk om te horen waar het Schots accent zn roots heeft. Wat we nu horen van Schotten is zoiets als Fransen die Engels spreken zonder dat we zouden weten hoe Frans als taal klinkt.quote:

Het is een volledig op zichzelf hangende tak.
Ik heb in Schotland gewoond en was bijna verhuisd naar Barra, een eiland waar Gaelic nog een gangbare taal is. Ik heb nog bijna dagelijks spijt dat ik dat niet heb aangegrepen.
