De Nederlandse regering heeft de vlucht van de de Turkse minister van Buitenlandse Zaken, Mevlüt Çavusoglu, naar Nederland geweigerd. Çavusoglu zou zaterdag een bezoek brengen aan Rotterdam.
Dat laat de regering weten in een verklaring.
"Het Nederlands kabinet heeft besloten om de landingsrechten voor het toestel van de Turkse minister van Buitenlandse Zaken Cavusoglu in Nederland in te trekken. Na een openbare oproep aan Turkse Nederlanders om massaal deel te nemen aan een publieke manifestatie met minister Cavusoglu in Rotterdam op zaterdag 11 maart, is de openbare orde en veiligheid in het geding gekomen", aldus de verklaring.
Turkije dreigde eerder met zware politieke en economische sancties als Nederland het bezoek van Çavusoglu zou verhinderen.
