SEASIDE PARK, New Jersey (WABC) -- Bomb-sniffing dogs completed a sweep in Seaside Park at the site of an explosion near a 5K charity run route, and found no additional devices.

The explosion of a "pipe bomb-type device" Saturday afternoon at the site of a 5K race to benefit Marines and sailors was not "a prank," said Ocean County Prosecutor spokesman Al Della Fave.

Della Fave told ABC News that the device was too sophisticated to be a trick. "We don't know what this individual's agenda is."

There were two to three additional pipe bomb devices wired together, he said. One pipe bomb went off and was contained to one garbage can where it was left, but the others did not.

No other devices were found in any other areas of Seaside Park.

Investigators are still unsure if the motive was political, terrorism or another type of criminal conduct.

The explosion, which occurred around 9:35 a.m. near D Street and Ocean Avenue, was on the route of the Third Annual 5K Semper Five race.

A four-block area near the explosion was evacuated around scene. Roads were reopening closer to the scene around 1:30 p.m, but the beach was still off limits. The race was canceled.

The Ocean County Sheriff's Department confirmed that no one has been injured and that there was no damage to the surrounding area. The investigation is still active.
Officials said participants in the run to benefit Marines and sailors had been scheduled to pass by the area around the time the blast occurred. But the start of the race was delayed after an unattended backpack was found in the area.

"It's obvious it was meant to affect the run, the fact that it went off at 9:35," said Della Fave.

The delay prevented a large number of runners in the area.

Garbage cans were being checked and the Ocean County Prosecutors Office Arson Unit, FBI, ATF and NJ State Police Bomb Squad are assisting. ATF New Jersey and Philadelphia Arson Explosive groups also were monitoring the situation.

The public is being urged to avoid the area.

The group that organized the event thanked Seaside Park police and the other emergency responders "for their quick action" following the blast. It wasn't immediately clear if the charity race will be rescheduled.

Several racers and people who said they were at the event took to social media to praise the way race officials and law enforcement handled the situation. They said officials kept them informed about what was happening and helped keep people calm.

Dat zei ik ook al zo'n beetje dat het prutsers waren die deze aanslag voorbereiden en pleegde, dat het allemaal wel mee valt is eerder te wijten aan dat maar 1 van de 3 afging.
