Ik had verwacht dat hij bij Foyt zou instappen.

Een opvolger voor Daly heeft Dale Coyne Racing al gevonden. Het biedt de pas 21-jarige Ed Jones in 2017 de kans om te debuteren in de IndyCar Series, meldt het team. Jones, dit jaar kampioen geworden in de Indy Lights, wordt bij Dale Coyne Racing de teamgenoot van meervoudig IndyCar-kampioen Sebastian Bourdais (37). Jones is van Britse afkomst, maar rijdt onder een racelicentie van de Verenigde Arabische Emiraten.

Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing heeft Oriol Servia aangetrokken als tweede rijder. Voorlopig voor drie races (Indy 500 en de Detroit doubleheader), maar meer als er genoeg funding gevonden kan worden.

Carlin lijkt komend seizoen niet aan de start te verschijnen. Ondanks eerdere berichten over een eventuele samenwerking met KV Racing is het Carlin niet gelukt om een aansprekende coureur aan te trekken. Pogingen om Mikhail Aleshin te strikken (die blijkbaar nog niet is vastgelegd door Sam Schmidt) zijn op niets uitgelopen vanwege onduidelijkheid of Aleshin's sponsor SMP wel mag investeren in de VS. Carlin wil in ieder geval in 2018 wel aan de start verschijnen.
KV Racing probeert nu alsnog (eventueel part-time) op de grid te komen door te proberen Pastor Maldonado aan te trekken voor de niet oval races. Maldonado wil niet op ovals rijden, dus voor de ovalraces (of alleen de Indy 500) zoeken ze nog een andere coureur. Mochten de gesprekken niet lukken lijkt afgelopen seizoen het laatste seizoen te zijn geweest voor KV Racing.

KV Racing stopt er mee. Auto's zijn verkocht aan Juncos Racing, een Indy Lights team, dat dit jaar de Indy 500 wil rijden en volgend jaar een groter part-time programma wil rijden om daarna full-time mee te gaan doen.

Jammer van KV. Zouden we ooit nog eens grote startvelden krijgen zoals in de jaren negentig (zowel in F1 als Indycar)? Indycar nu maar 21 fulltime wagens, F1 slechts 20. Alleen bij de Indy tikken ze nog altijd de 33 aan.

F1 wil niet meer dan 24. Meer past niet meer in de pitstraat. Dat bleek in ieder geval na de tender in 2010, toen het veld aangevuld werd tot 12 teams.quote:

Jay Howard gaat voor Schmidt Peterson de Indy 500 rijden.
