ESCXtra:quote:NETHERLANDS
Mwahaha. Fashion disaster de luxe. But it does at least distract from the monotony of the song.
Where to begin? Trijntje is trying out different veils to start the song, as if she's planning to go to a funeral. But you wouldn't go to a funeral in THAT dress. Think Mando in 2003, but with even more cleavage. Backing singers also look an absolute mess. At one point L O V E appear on her fingers with some magic lights. Goodness knows what they were smoking when they came up with this (or well, I can guess).
Vocally competent, but there's so much visual weirdness you really forget the song.
Sofabet:quote:Trijntje’s performance for The Netherlands is really quite bizarre in every way. The lady herself is wearing a somewhat immodestly revealing black dress with cut-out work on the front, ‘complemented’ by a sparkly veil. Her backing vocalists are wearing a combination of baggy slogan outfits. I expect it all comes across as so peculiar as it really isn’t what anyone was expecting for this song. Trijntje’s performance is vocally very sold however.
Good points about The Netherlands. Trijntje is on point vocally. End of the list. Like their song last year, they’ve gone for one long camera shot throughout the whole song. It doesn’t suit it. And it goes WAY closer to Trijntje than we needed to go. The dress…very revealing – I am intimately familiar with parts of Trijntje I never thought I would be familiar with. She starts off in a sort of a lace veil, which she loses halfway through. People at home will be talking about the outfit throughout the performance and not listening to the song. Right now it’s a goner.
quote:Netherlands’ ‘Walk Along’ is a bland, repetitive song that needs lifting in its staging. Unfortunately, Trijntje’s slutty widow outfit, with face veil ripped off part-way through, is distracting in a negative way. There’s only one camera take here, not dissimilar to what they tried successfully last year. But it’s unnecessary for a solo act, and only cements a rather static presentation.
ESCTips:quote:A strange lace mask on Trijntje’s face at the start, and a startling, plunging black dress showing a fair amount of her ample bosom. Her backing vocalists are dressed in black and white outfits that look like a graffiti artist has thrown up all over them.
In between takes Trijntje has a face like thunder a-aa, beating like thunder… Lovers kissing in silhouette is a nice backdrop and Trijntje certainly has a great set of lungs but no shoes on final run-through. She gives good camera to be fair.
quote:This year’s Barbera Dex award will go to the Netherlands‘ Trijntje Oosterhuis. Guaranteed!
Trijntje opens Walk Along with a partial face veil, and depending which one they choose, she’ll either look TH0000_17 like a netted cantaloupe, or a mourning widow. Additionally, her dress peels open at the front like she has undergone a partial autopsy or A&E procedure. This isn’t the classy look of a 40+ year-old and I suspect people, and men of a similar age and persuasion, will be concentrating on Trijntje’s tulips.
The background imagery is effective, and that seems to be Pannecoucke’s strength. Another nod to last year’s staging sees the performance filmed with a single steady-cam shot. There’s a lot of content here, but I can’t see the Netherlands qualifying this year.

quote:Netherlands - Trijntje's operating in a different world from everybody else, and I think I mean that as a compliment, but I'm honestly not sure. I keep going back and forth on this one, which means I'm thinking about it, which I wasn't really much before.
quote:Interesting... I doubt we'll see it's full effect until next Tuesday.
quote:I must be in the minority who actually like the dress (I know, I have poor tastes, especially for a woman like myself).
quote:I loved the Netherlands (her vocals are killer and I like the backdrop and I'd love to see how it looks as a whole already...*not gonna talk about the outfit*)
Winst is zo goed als binnenquote:I am really intrigued by the Netherlands tbh, I love the way she changed the final chorus. Its kinda appealing and I love it. She has a great voice and her range is absolutely brilliant!
quote:The Netherlands - The stage looked gorgeous for this. Seriously the best looking staging of the day, but i'm unsure it matched what was going on. Hot mess potential is high with this one. We've all seen how she was dressed. It's just a shame we don't have a ridiculously fun hot mess of a song to go with it. Instead we've got three dull, repetitive minutes. On the plus side, it seems she's lessened the "Why yai yai" now. She sounded good.
quote:The Netherlands - Yeah I know, most of you don't like it BUT she proved what an amazing voice she has and I'm really curious to see what's behind the staging. (btw I think she looks absolutely stunning in that dress - If I were a woman of 42 I''d probably kill to have such a body )
quote:At times…..Eurovision is really about the “queers” no? Not gays, because I am gay myself, but “queers”.
Here in The Netherlands we have a saying: “If you disagree with something, say it straight into his/her face”. Here in Holland we would respect it if someone said during that meet-and-great in plain honesty that Trijntje looks like a slutty widow. Yes, it’ll result in a very hefty discussion, but strong women know how to deal with that. But no, we don’t do that, because that would be insulting.
Then ask yourself what the difference is if you say these things behind someone’s back. This certainly wasn’t Conchita’s message last year no? There’s a lot of respect for Conchita’s message, but shouldn’t we a bittt more nicer to ladies like Trijntje who have their own tastes as well? Obviously this was her choice, and she feels happy in it.
Let me clear, I’m not saying all this to defend Netherlands’ qualification chances. Because in all honesty, I do think she has a slim chance of qualifying for the grand final. The total package apparently doesn’t work so far.
But respecttt please. ACT like Conchita, DON’T let her message become a void, useless one. No need to use bad words. And I think looking at CE William’s background, he obviously knows what I’m talking about :-).
