The comments by Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari, commander of the nation's powerful Revolutionary Guards Corps, come amid concern among some of Shiite Iran's neighbours about Tehran's role.
"The Islamic revolution is advancing with good speed, its example being the ever-increasing export of the revolution," he said, according to the ISNA news agency.
"Today, not only Palestine and Lebanon acknowledge the influential role of the Islamic republic but so do the people of Iraq and Syria. They appreciate the nation of Iran."
He made references to military action against Islamic State (IS) jihadists in Iraq and Syria, where the Guards have deployed advisers in support of Baghdad and Damascus.
"The phase of the export of the revolution has entered a new chapter," he added, referring to an aim of Iran's 1979 Islamic revolution.

Nauwelijks effect op seculiere Iranirs in Iran. Soleimani wordt daarentegen wel steeds meer als een nationale held gezien, ook onder de seculieren.quote:

Officially nationalism is taboo in Iran as the establishment sources its identity and foundational values to the Islamic Revolution. For more than three decades, Iranian leaders and officials have tried to suppress deep-seated feelings and manifestations of nationalism on political and ideological grounds, but there are growing signs that they may eventually have to submit to the inevitable.
Demographic and political dynamics have converged to produce a potential shift. The young generation has no memory of the revolution or the war with Iraq and consequently has little time for official doctrines and sanctities.
At the political level, and appearances notwithstanding, the power and influence of the Shiite clergy is in decline. This is a longstanding process that is likely to intensify once Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei departs the arena.
The challenge for Iranian policymakers and socio-cultural strategists is to find new channels to connect the establishment to the younger generations. It is in this context that the emerging cult around Soleimani commands clearer significance.
The Quds force general may never enter politics himself but his meteoric rise points to a distinct direction of travel in Iranian politics, notably an emerging political culture which remoulds revolutionary values and objectives in a nationalistic framework.

Waar komen die bandana's overigens vandaan? Hebben de Iranirs het voor het eerst in de Islamitische wereld (buiten de Japanners om) gebruikt ten tijde van de Iran-Irak oorlog, of gaat het verder terug?
