X-Men: Days of Future Past is an upcoming American superhero film co-written and directed by Bryan Singer and featuring the X-Men characters appearing in Marvel Comics. It is intended to be the seventh installment in the
X-Men film series. The screenplay is written by Simon Kinberg, Matthew Vaughn and Jane Goldman, with Singer writing the story, and is based on the 1981 popular comics storyline
"Days of Future Past" by Chris Claremont and John Byrne. It is the third X-Men film to be directed by Singer after
X-Men (2000) and
X2 (2003), and is produced an co-written by Vaughn, who directed and co-wrote
X-Men: First Class (2011), a prequel to the original trilogy.
Acting as a dual sequel to both
X-Men: The Last Stand (2006) and
First Class, it stars some of their respective casts: Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Anna Paquin, Shawn Ashmore and Ellen Page returns from the original trilogy, while James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult returns from First Class. Hugh Jackman, who appeared in both the original trilogy and the prequel (having a cameo appearance in the latter film), will also reprise his role as Wolverine.
The film is scheduled to go into production in April 2013, and is scheduled for release on July 18, 2014.
