Ilse deLange en Waylon zullen tijdens de eerste Halve Finale op dinsdag 6 mei onder de naam "The Common Linnets" Nederland gaan vertegenwoordigen in Kopenhagen, met het nummer 'Calm after the storm'.

Back from lunch, with the Common Linnets. Ilse and Waylon share a 'common' microphone stand, which splits into two, providing a microphone for each of the performers. The duo are joined on-stage by a cellist, a drummer and a guitar-player. Cameras linger above the pair at the beginning of the rehearsal, as a lighting effect recreates a moving road between the two. Focus then moves very much onto the singers, who appear to look very 'intense' - there is a lot of straight-to-camera staring and at eachother! The backdrop is again very dark and moody, as is the LED floor - something of a surprise for this kind of song. There are no sweeping stage-shots at all - it's all very much about what is happening on-stage. These two very consummate performers are clearly comfortable on-stage however.

The stage floor has been transformed in a concrete road with signs onto until somewhere mid way the song when thorns and tree trunks take over and intertwine on the stage floor. During the second run through I noticed towards the end how the stage flooring turns really white grey'ish and how it's very overpowering. Perhaps they should tone it down a little.
Overall however, it's really effective staging for a non-typical Eurovision song.
The camera work is cleverly done as well, with a few moments where there's eye contact with the camera and let me tell you, Waylon's deep eyes are going to captivate you.
Vocally, Ilse and Waylon are top notch. Didn't expect anything different from them in all honesty.
