Niet in alle ONK's maar volgende week volgens mij wel, als hij tenminste beter is want hij is ziek. Daarom ook niet meegedaan in Mantova dit weekend. Focus ligt sowieso op het WK.

Davy Pootjes van het Red Bull KTM Team heeft op dit moment al een succesvolle carrière achter de rug in de motorcross. Ondanks dat hij nog maar 16 jaar oud is, pakte hij al Nederlandse en Europese titels in de 65cc en 85cc klasse. Nu is hij actief in de 125cc klasse en won afgelopen zondag de eerste wedstrijd om het ONK 125cc in Emmercompascuum. Pootjes maakt deel uit van de KTM familie en staat onder begeleiding van Harry Everts. Onder zijn hoede probeert Davy verder te groeien in zijn weg naar de top. Motocrossplanet volgde Davy op een normale door de weekse dag en tijdens het ONK 125cc in Emmercompascuum!

I first rode the Suzuki a week after the Motocross of Nations and of course it was in Holland! First we went on holiday for a week to Turkey – I was due a birthday present from my girlfriend so she booked up some days there and we had some rest. After that I started my physical training and work; overall it was not a long break and I felt like I didn’t need it. One week laying on my arse was enough! I began slowly and built it up over one and-a-half months until I started riding again. We had a lot of testing to do.

I’m an active guy and it feels like life is only about training, training, training… When I have to stop then it’s normally a bit of TV, seeing some friends or family. Where I am based in southern Holland it is ideal because I’m close to the Suzuki workshop and central for quite a few tracks. Also for mountain biking. We don’t have any hills but in the local forest there are some nice trails. I also take the time to see private sponsors because some of those guys have backed me since I started racing and it is important to keep in touch. I appreciate them a lot.

Coming to Suzuki was a change for me. It was the first time back on a Japanese bike for two years and the biggest difference I felt right away was the weight. It was unbelievable; so much less and one of the main reasons why I feel so comfortable on the RM-Z250. The team has worked a lot on the engine and I’m pleased with the improvements they have made. I think we are in pretty good shape after two Grands Prix already.

I’m a factory rider now and I’m conscious of the fact that sometimes I have more things to do! Like in Thailand we visited a Suzuki dealer for signings and photos; so that is a bit different. Working with a team like Rockstar Energy Suzuki Europe we have an engine guy, a suspension guy and quite a lot of people dedicated to specific jobs. In the beginning I thought it would be a bit strange for me because I’m used to just working with a single mechanic but I like the professionalism and the whole system in place.

As most people know the Suzuki MX2 project went through some changes over the winter and there was a moment where I thought ‘what happens now?’ We had to start talks again but once we found an agreement and I was talking directly with Suzuki then I was really happy because the people in the whole set-up are so nice and helpful. I found I could get some good assistance for my physical conditioning and that the environment around me was optimised for racing. After all, the bike can be good but it is still the rider that needs to go out and deliver. I think this system of support is one of the best things about Suzuki.

So 2014 is my last year in MX2 but I’m set for two years with Suzuki. This was something very important for me when I signed the contract because most of those who have to move for 2015 don’t yet have a ride confirmed for MXGP. For sure Suzuki is ‘not bad’ in MXGP! They have a very competitive 450 and, from what I’ve learnt so far, they can make a bike that handles really nicely for me. I’m not too worried about heading into MXGP because I rode the 450 in the winter and have some experience. In the beginning I really liked it but after about six weeks I was ready to get back on the 250! I’m not 100% ready yet for the 450. I need a different training programme and a bit more weight because I’m very light.

As everyone knows Jeffrey Herlings is the World Champion and he’s also from Holland but I really don’t mind that he takes the spotlight in terms of Dutch riders doing well at GP. I quite like being in the wings and he can take all the media attention. He is a double World Champion whereas I’ve had to cope with four years of injury problems. When you get injured then you always have to start again from zero and from the bottom. Last year, finally, I was uninjured and now you can see that in many motos and practice sessions I am always up there. It is a big difference compared to other years and I hope it continues through 2014.

Jeffrey Herlings – Record Breaker

The next couple of months might see something special happen in the FIM MX2 World Championship as young Dutchman Jeffrey Herlings continues to climb up the list of all-time GP winners.

Already this year with two GP wins in Qatar and Thailand (taking him to 33 GP wins) he has passed the legendary Finnish rider Heikki Mikkola (who has 32 GP wins), and up ahead of him are more legends in waiting.

It is more than likely that he will end up fifth in the all-time list at the end of the 2014 season, possibly just a couple of GP wins behind long time record holder Joel Robert (50 GP wins), who holds fourth place in the list.

At present though just ahead of him are Roger De Coster (Belgium) with 36 wins, Torsten Hallman (Sweden) with 37 wins, Mickael Pichon (France) with 38 wins and Eric Geboers (Belgium) with 39 wins.

He should without too much problem pass these guys within the next two months (Brazil, Italy, Bulgaria, Holland, Spain and Great Britain in this period). Of course, to join Geboers the Dutchman needs to win all six GPs, which is more likely than not.

Once past Geboers only Joel Robert (50 wins), Joel Smets (57 wins), Antonio Cairoli (64 wins) and Stefan Everts (101 wins) stand in his way.

A move to the MXGP class in 2015 will slow his progress, but anything is possible with this amazing talent. Everts and Cairoli will be hard to catch, but you can count on the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider focusing on this record, because just like his mentor Stefan Everts records mean a lot to him.

Motorcrosser Jeffrey Herlings heeft vandaag de tweede wedstrijd om de open Nederlandse titel aan zich voorbij laten gaan. De tweevoudig wereldkampioen in de MX2 was tijdens de training op het circuit van het Brabantse Mill over de kop gegaan en landde zo verkeerd op zijn schouder, dat hij uit voorzorg niet van start ging.

Het betekende dat Glenn Coldenhoff zijn zegereeks in het ONK kon voortzetten. De crosser uit Heesch won beide manches en vergrootte zo zijn voorsprong in de tussenstand. Mike Kras greep de overwinning in de MX1.

Herlings en Coldenhoff reizen komende week af naar Brazilië, voor de derde Grand Prix van dit seizoen op 30 maart in Beto Carrero.

Herlings niet naar Brazilië

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing advises that current MX2 World Champion Jeffrey Herlings will not compete in this weekend’s MX2 World Championship Round 3 in Brazil, the last of the fly away races.

Jeffrey received a painful knock to the shoulder in a racing incident in last week’s round of the Dutch National Championship and the team has decided he should rest it this weekend to ensure he recovers complete fitness as soon as possible.

Pit Beirer, KTM Head of Motorsports “We naturally regret that Jeffrey will not be on the grid for the Brazil round as we are sure his fans will be disappointed. But the season is long and we feel he is well advised to sit this one out.”

Coldenhoff kwam goed weg want Anstie en Tonus kwamen nog dichtbij, tenzij Glenn het rustig aan heeft gedaan de laatste ronde's natuurlijk.

Morgen om 17 uur de eerste manches en om 20 uur de tweede manches.

Brakke bakt er niet veel van op de CLS Kawasaki.

Voorlopig nog geen tweede GP zege voor Coldenhoff, ligt wel eerste in de tweede manche maar werd in de eerste manche 5de en Tonus 1ste en die ligt nu 3de achter Gajser.

Qualifying-Race


Jeffrey Herlings is in de kwalificatieheat van de Grand Prix van Italie op een derde plaats over de finish gekomen. De tweevoudig Wereldkampioen was betrokken bij een valpartij in de eerste bocht waar ook Glenn Coldenhoff bij betrokken was. Herlings begon daardoor buiten de top tien maar kwam hard terug naar voren.

Op het snelle circuit van Arco di Trento werkte hij zich al voor het midden van de wedstrijd op naar een derde plaats. Echter in de daaropvolgende ronden kon hij het gat tot aan Valentin Guillod en Romain Febvre niet dichten. Daarnaast kwam Herlings flink onder druk te staan van Arnaud Tonus. Pas in de slotfase sloop hij naar het achterwiel van Febvre toe en kwam uiteindelijk aan het achterwiel van de Fransman op een derde plaats over de finish.

Glenn Coldenhoff begon na zijn valpartij bij de start als laatste aan de wedstrijd en reed een sterke inhaalrace. De rijder uit Heesch wist er nog een dertiende plaats uit te slepen en kan hiermee nog enigszins een redelijk goede startplaats uitzoeken in de beide manches op zondag. Brian Bogers finishte op een vijfentwintigste plaats.

De wedstrijd werd gewonnen door de Zwitser Valentin Guillod van het Standing Construct KTM Team. Guillod reed een ijzersterke wedstrijd en wist in het midden van de wedstrijd de koppositie van Romain Febvre over te nemen. Daarna hield hij het hoofd koel en wist het gaatje tot aan Febvre hetzelfde te houden tot over de finish.

Jeffrey Herlings roosting Dr. Wolfgang Srb and Heinz Kinigadner at Arco MXGP

This was a pretty funny moment at the MXGP of Arco. Jeffrey Herlings was getting a debrief from Stefan Everts after the MX2 race but had to leave as the MXGP race was about to start. He needed to go back the way he came from and since he was in a was pretty tight space, he just leant the bike over and gave it a little gas, roosting Dr. Wolfgang Srb, the FIM president and Heinz Kinigadner in the process! He obviously didn’t realize they were there but they initially looked a litte surprised before they all started laughing. Since I got quite a nice sequence of it I thought I would share it.
