What if we told you that the typical purse for an AMA Supercross is $119,865 per week (it breaks down as $66,950 for the 450 Main, $18,847 for the 450 Last Chance, $23,700 for the 250 Main and $10,368 for the 250 Last Chance). Multiply that times 17 weeks and the available purse money for 2015 is $2,032,705. A 450 Supercross rider could make as much a $205,000 in purse money in 2015 by sweeping the series (not an impossibility). Even a rider who finishes 20th in every 450 main event would pocket $36,295 in purse money. Would you be surprise to discover that a rider who finished dead last, not dead last in the main event, but dead last in the night program (technically 40th place), would still make $16,405 in purse money over the Supercross season?

There is also a $363,120 Supercross points fund that pays the top 20 in 2015 season points. The Champion gets $100,000, second gets $40,000, third $25,000, fourth $21,500 and so on to the 20th place 450 rider—who gets $9000



WHAT DOES FIRST PLACE PAY IN THE 450 CLASS?
If a rider won every AMA Supercross in 2015, he would earn $205,000 in purse money alone. It goes without saying, but we will say it, that he would also earn $1,700,000 in factory bonuses (at $100,000 per win), a $1,000,000 Championship bonus and a $100,000 Feld Entertainment bonus. The total could be $3,005,000.

WHAT DOES SECOND PLACE PAY?
If a rider finished second at every AMA Supercross in 2015, he would earn $102,000 in purse money. Although factory contracts vary in bonus money after the win bonus, second place bonuses could be anywhere from $300,000 to $500,000 for the year. Plus, Feld Entertainment’s Championship bonus would be $40,000. The series total could range from $437,000 to $637,000.

WHAT DOES FIFTH PLACE PAY?
If a rider finished fifth at every AMA Supercross in 2015, he would earn $51,170 in purse money. There would also be a $16,500 pay out from the Feld Entertainment Championship points fund. Total–$67,670.

WHAT DOES TENTH PLACE PAY?
If a rider finished tenth in every AMA Supercross in 2015, he would earn $41,310. The Feld Entertainment bonus for tenth place is $11,390. Total–$52,700

WHAT DOES 20TH PLACE PAY?
If a rider finished 20th in every AMA Supercross in 2015, he would earn $36,295 in purse money. Feld pays a Championship bonus of $9000 to 20th place in the standings. Total–$45,295.



On a final note, if a rider failed to make the main event (finishing fifth in the every Last Chance), he would make $22,355. And, a rider who finished dead last in the Last Chance every week would earn $16,405.



It should be noted that the AMA 250 East/West does not pay nearly as well. There are two reasons for this; (1) The 250 East/West are not AMA National Championship series. They are regional support classes. (2) While the 450 Supercross series is 17 races long, the East/West are typically 9 races. A 250 East/West rider who won nine rounds in a single series would make $30,150 in purse money (at $3350 per win) during the season.

Husqvarna gaat flink investeren gezien het aantal rijders.

Suzuki is wel minder aan het worden, het is dat ze Roczen (en Tickle, Baggett) op een Suzuki hebben maar verder is het helemaal niets in de VS. En in het WK ook alleen maar de fabrieksrijders, dan doen KTM en Husqvarna het een stuk beter.

Davy Pootjes van het Red Bull KTM Factory Team is in de eerste wedstrijd om het Italiaans Kampioenschap MX2 in Riola Sardo op een zesde plaats geeindigd. De rijder uit Ammerzoden kwam in de MX2 manche vanuit het achterveld terug naar een zesde plaats en begon hiermee sterk aan zijn seizoen.

Voor Davy was het zijn allereerste wedstrijd in de MX2 klasse. Al enkele weken is hij in Sardinie onder goede omstandigheden aan het trainen en vandaag was dan de eerste wedstrijd op het zware zandcircuit van Riola Sardo. Omdat de MX2 klasse helemaal nieuw is voor Davy wist hij niet wat hij ervan moest verwachten. Al snel werd duidelijk dat zijn snelheid ook in de MX2 klasse goed is want in het sterke deelnemersveld wist hij in de tijdtraining een nette zevende tijd neer te zetten.

De eerste manche begon met een tegenslag voor Davy want het duurde lang voordat het starthek viel en hierdoor reageerde Davy net op het verkeerde moment. Hij moest in de achterhoede aan de wedstrijd beginnen en verloor in de eerste ronde opnieuw tijd toen hij achter een bult bovenop de gevallen Nick Kouwenberg sprong. Vanaf een eenentwintigste plaats begon hij aan een opmars terug naar voren. Met nette rondetijden passeerde hij de ene na de andere rijder en zag zijn vechtlust beloont worden met een mooie zesde plaats.

De tweede manche van de dag was een superfinale waarbij Davy het op moest nemen tegen de MX1-rijders waaronder Antonio Cairoli, Gautier Paulin, Max Nagl e.a. Ondanks dit sterke deelnemersveld deed Davy het knap en ging de strijd aan met de concurrentie. Echter op een dertiende plaats rijdend, waarvan hij de vierde MX2-rijder was, kwam hij in het heetst van de strijd in aanraking met een andere rijder en kwam ten val. Hierbij liep zijn motor schade op en moest Davy met pijn in zijn hoofd en een kromme voorvork de wedstrijd verlaten.

Na de eerste wedstrijd staat Davy op een zesde plaats in de tussenstand om het Italiaans Kampioenschap MX2. Volgende week zondag staat de tweede wedstrijd op het programma op het harde circuit van Castiglione del Lago. Ook in deze wedstrijd zal Davy aan de start komen.

Herlings: “I won’t be 100% at Qatar”

2012 and 2013 FIM MX2 Motocross World Champion Jeffrey Herlings admitted that he is unlikely to be fully fit for the launch of the 2015 campaign at Losail, Qatar on February 28th having only started to ride his Red Bull KTM yesterday (Tuesday). The 20 year old got back into the sand just two months after surgery to remove the pin and screws that had helped re-grow his left femur and close the book on a troublesome championship-losing injury that occurred last July.

“I started yesterday…and felt really stiff!” he said exclusively. “It was fun because it had been a really long time…to be honest though it felt like I had been run over by a train!”

The Dutchman, together with KTM, opted for an early operation on the leg that they knew would carry consequences for the pre-season and meant that ‘84’ would be struggling going to Qatar for the second year in a row. “I kept getting pain above my knee and around my hip from the pin and the screws,” the 2014 runner-up explains. “It was irritating me while I was training. I was in Austria and talked about it with Pit [Beirer, KTM Sport Director]. We called the doctor to ask about having the metal taken out and he said it would set me back between two and three months, so we decided to go for it figuring that I would still have a bit of time to ride before Qatar.”

“We knew I would not be 100% for the first race but we took the risk,” he continues. “Normally it is something you would have done at the end of the season but there was just time to get it done before the start. Pit also agreed it was better to race without the pin because if I crashed again then the bone would shatter and I’d be screwed. So here I am two months after the operation and I don’t feel any pain. I don’t feel like the old Jeffrey yet, for sure, but that is something to work towards.”

Herlings now has just over three weeks to build up his speed, confidence and fitness before facing a rapid-fire opening to the Grand Prix series with Qatar followed immediately by the trip to Nakhonchaisri, Thailand. Despite the tight time frame the former champion is not going to push the panic button. “It has been six-seven months without any hard work on the bike and I know if I started doing two thirty-five minute motos now then my body would just break down,” he says. “I have been running, cycling and swimming but I haven’t been using the muscles for being on the bike. I’ll just listen to how I feel now and work around that.”

“Last year I learned just how long a championship can be. I will be ‘surviving’ in Qatar and Thailand and just going for what points I can get,” he added. Herlings has previously been known to defy pain, orders and expectations to continue a winning run in MX2 that began at the first round of 2013 and lasted until the final event of 2014 when he was sick, ailing and ultimately defeated by Jordi Tixier. He has also thrown mind games against MX2 opponents with regards to the extent of past injuries (after all he won in Qatar and Thailand last year despite a foot problem also inhibiting his preparation) but the setback of last summer and the subsequent costs that have lasted over six months seem to have curbed some of his invincibility.

Another factor for Herlings to deal with will be the 2016 pre-production 250SX-F. So far he has been unable to rack-up any testing mileage on the new bike. “I’m going to Spain next week and I have been on the old bike so far just to get the feeling back,” he reveals. “I rode the new bike twice before I got injured but that was obviously a long time ago. I have heard that the latest version is really special and I think people saw in the Italian Championship round last weekend that it is one of the best 250s out there [Pauls Jonass won the MX2 class]. I’ll have it from this weekend and I’m excited to ride but it probably means we won't have the ideal set-up in time for Qatar and Thailand.”

Nu we 6 ronde's gehad hebben gaan de 250cc West met vakantie en komen de 250cc East voor het eerst in actie! Met onder andere de kampioen van vorig jaar Justin Bogle, de runner-up Martin Davalos en de Europese rookie Arnaud Tonus! Daarnaast ook de 2014 Nationals kampioen Jeremy Martin en de Fransman Marvin Musquin.

Ook Vince Friese (de nummer drie van vorig jaar) en Kyle Cunningham (de nummer vier) doen weer mee. De grote afwezige is de Kawasaki rijder Adam Cianciarulo die vorig jaar nog op de titel leek af te stevenen maar geblesseerd raakte en wederom geblesseerd is.
