‘Birds’ from Anouk is quite simply pure class. Her breathy vocals just melt over this sad, melodic, very simple ballad. Think Lana Del Rey does Eurovision.

It’s a gorgeous song, and will most certainly be a gorgeous performance, but as we all know too well nothing is guaranteed on the night.

It is very contained and then when you expect it to explode into an arrangement of colour and a bang, it does as big as you expect it to. Am I disappointed? Het jaarlijkse stemmen van alle Europese Songfestivalclubs is weer begonnen en Ierland is het eerste land waarvan de leden hun voorkeur laten blijken. En Nederland pakt meteen de twaalf punten van het land.

Lange tijd staan Noorwegen, Rusland en Denemarken bovenaan bij de Ierse fans, maar Nederland weet zich na een tijdje in de top te nestelen. Het is spannend tot aan de laatste stemmer.
Letland daarentegen is volledig uit de gratie bij de Ierse fans. Dat land eindigt bij de Ierse fans op 0 punten.
