"Een shelf cloud (letterlijk plankwolk) is een wolk die soms voorafgaat aan zware onweersbuien. In de meteorologie worden zulke bijzondere wolkenvormen, samen met de rolwolk als een type gezien van een arcus boogwolk."

kan opzich geen kwaad dus :)

Leverde aardig wat regen op daarro... Hier het nieuwsbericht uit de Sydney Herald

quote:
rain causes Sydney chaos
Heavy rain has sparked flash flooding on the central coast and in parts of Sydney, with the city expected to be drenched with up to 100mm of rain today.

The wild weather brought down trees and caused damage on the north shore last night and has caused delays on some Sydney roads and train lines this morning.

Bureau of Meteorology duty forecaster Chris Webb said the rain came heavy and fast on the north shore in the early hours of this morning, with a thunderstorm dumping 72mm on Wahroonga between midnight and 6am and 56mm in Hornsby.

"It's going to be a pretty wet day in Sydney today," Mr Webb said.
State Emergency Service spokesman Phil Campbell said heavy rain caused flash floods on the central coast and a woman had to be rescued from her car in Narara this morning.

The weather bureau said Gosford has had 110mm of rain since yesterday morning, with 65mm falling in one hour to 6am today. There is a severe weather warning for flash flooding in the Hunter.
Mr Campbell said there could be more flash flooding in parts of Sydney, the Illawarra and the north coast today.

"It's a day to be pretty careful when you're driving about and not to drive into any flash flooding," he said. Mr Campbell said thunderstorms sparked about 70 calls for help overnight, with several in the Hornsby area. "Most of what we're seeing ... is damage caused by leaking roofs and a bit of minor property damage caused by fallen trees and branches."

CityRail said the underpass near Mount Kuring-gai station was closed due to flooding and buses would take passengers to Hornsby and back.

The weather was causing issues on Sydney roads this morning, with flooding closing Leicester Avenue at Cooper Street in Strathfield and slowing traffic on the Pacific Highway at Mount Colah.
Traffic lights were also out or flashing yellow in some areas.

Mr Webb said the rain and thunderstorms were being caused by a strong upper level low moving over the city, along with a weak trough.

"[But] it's going to improve pretty dramatically," he said.
He said an early shower was forecast for tomorrow, with a chance of showers on Wednesday before clear days on Thursday and Friday.
