At least two more vents have opened up on the from what I can gather on the pictures and the reports from Canary Islands. So far all the new vents are under the ocean and at depth of no less then 150 meters. So seeing them directly is quite hard for the moment. There are continues deep earthquakes under El Hierro volcano, but that suggests that new magma is flowing into El Hierro volcano.
During the weekend floating magma bombs where (or some type of magma, I do not have the exact word for it in English at the moment) floating on the ocean. But this means that at least one of the vents that started erupting in the beginning is getting close to break the surface of the ocean. If the eruption continues in that vent for a little while longer. If it gets above the surface of the ocean, it is going to form a island and a lava eruption is going to start once the ocean cannot get any more into the crater.
There is a risk of new fissures in El Hierro opening up without warning. From what I am estimating, the area that this can happen has expanded about ~5 km or so from my original estimate that I made in few blog posts ago. The risk of new fissure opening up on land is going to remain high while this eruption is taking place. But this might well be a period of eruption activity for El Hierro. It is impossible to know for how long it is going to last, it could be weeks or it could be months and up to years of activity.

MADRID, 17 Oct. (EUROPE PRESS) -
The scientific coordinator of the Institute of the Canary Islands Volcano, Nemesio Perez, stated that in order to form another island next to El Hierro should have an eruption of magma "incredible", which, as explained, "so far is not happening ".
In an interview on National Radio, as reported by Europa Press, Perez emphasized that the eruptions that occur or have occurred in the past in El Hierro have been low index fossils. It has also indicated that "when magma instead of going by land out near the coast to 50 to 20 feet deep, will increase your explosive" because the interaction with water causes it to break and be more explosive .
However, he pointed out that the submarine fissure eruption is about 2.5 kilometers south of La Restinga and the emission occurs at about 150 meters deep. Therefore, he noted that "the most obvious manifestations of this rash are those rocks or floating material as a result of gas content that exists in the lava."
On the other hand, has indicated that "the hydrophones that have been possible to detect which in turn allow the eviction" and noted that "volcano monitoring is based on monitoring of seismic activity, deformation and gas" and with that information "could detect any change in volcanic activity."
Finally, he stressed that "the recovery of the marine system could be quite rapid, especially the smaller species."

quote:El Hierro Volcanolgists report new island may be formed
Further to this weekends continued Volcanic eruptions off the southth-weatern coast of the island of El Hierro, and meetings held on Sunday afternoon by the PEVOLCA committee, scientists have ressumed their analysis of the activity.
The Oceanographic research ship Profesor Ignacio Lozano has left port early this morning to monitor the eruption area, in particular investigating the numerous fish killed in vacinity of the 'stain' and collecting gas and pummice samples brought to the surface.
Whilst many residents of the evacuated village of la restinga have slowly begun to return to their properties, many have chosen to remain away from home due to fears of further volcanic activity. The authorities have not ruled out that a further evacuation may be necessary at just 7 or 8 hours notice.
Volcanologists from the CSIC (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas) have also concluded that if the activity continues for a further 2 weeks then the magma production coul result in a new island being formed just 2km off the coast of la Restinga. form a new small island 2 km out of the present El Hierro coast if the eruption continues like it does today.
Research tems have ruled out the possibility that any such 'island' would be connected to El Hierro.

Volcanologists on El Hierro beleive that the Volcano moved into a new phase on Momnday afternoon following signs of a number of volcanic tremors, which could indicate that the processis moving faster than originally predicted.
The Sulfur stain coming from the eruption in the Atlantic to the south of the island of sulfur is almost bigger than the island itself, and yesterday saw an increased number of bubbles rising to the surface.
Scientists predict that if things continue at the same rate huge columns of smoke may be produced, reaching some 500 feet, after high pressure steam and gas is released from the seabed, followed by explosions caused by magma at 1,200 degrees coming onto contact with seawater on the ocean floor.
The Professor Lozano research vessel of the Canary Institute of Marine Sciences (ICCM) returned to port on El Hierro late yesterday to review data, but it became clear that the lava still contains a high concentration of gases after lava rocks collected were found to break easily due to a large number of bubbles in them.
The decision made following Sunday's PEVOLCA meeting, to allow residents of la restinga to return to their homes after evacuation last week, has now been postponed until later today.
Scientists are continuing to collect samples of pyroclastic formations, fish, and water characteristics such as temperature, salinity, pH, chlorophyll, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, gases and nutrients to monitor changes in the eruption process.
The exact nature of what is happening underneath the island remains unknown for the time being, which has lead to speculation that a new formation, or 'island' may grow from the magma production 2km offshore in the Atlantic.
Towards the end of the short video clip you can see the bubbles being produced rising to the surface.

The area of eruption has dawned calmer. At least, that the signs seem to indicate less intense than days ago that at this time can be seen in the area of Los Carilo, about three miles from La Restinga and the epicenter of information these days.
According to sources consulted by AVCAN DAILY HIERRO, the decline of the tremor signal may be due to several reasons. On the one hand, the activity has ceased magna closing its output abroad, which could raise the pressure and therefore increase, again, the seismicity on the island.
It may also simply mean that the eruption has ceased, the magma is cooled in the crack, like a dam and leaving only residual seismic activity would decline.
Finally, the third possible scenario could be that the system stops cavitate or flutter, ie the area or the point where depressurization occurs is more than just size, so do not pass the magma forced by that point. AVCAN view of one form or another possibility, "would be great on curved or straight devil taking as the starting energies the stopping point of tremor".
However, it will take to the explanation of the scientists who are working on the island of El Hierro.

The residents of the town of El Hierro La Restinga can not return home permanently, as announced by the Director General of Security and Emergency of the Canary Islands, Juan Manuel Santana and the president of the Cabildo de El Hierro , Alpidio Armas , after the last meeting held by the scientific committee Prevolca this afternoon.
Santana explained that, although the volcano eruptive activity has declined in recent hours and that the air quality in La Restinga no problems of toxicity recorded recently boosted currents by emission spot submarine to the coast by that "we must be attentive to the wind" and an increased number of tests.
Also, forward a reinforced security and controlled access area, which will increase the time that those affected can go to their homes. Weapons acknowledged the situation "embarrassing" that plagues the economy resulting from the eruption of El Hierro underwater, in reference to the fisheries sector, among others.
The director of the National Geographic Institute (IGN), Maria Jose Blanco attended the event, said that so far there has been no columns of steam and that the decreased activity could mean that the mouth of the volcano "could be closing." However, he noted that it is a hypothesis, since it is not ruled out a rash on the mainland.
White said that depends on the political representatives, and not IGN, allowing residents access to La Restinga.

President of the Canary Islands, Paulino Rivero, advanced in an interview in 'breakfasts TVE that scientists who study the phenomena of El Hierro euruptivo hope to offer a response to recent symptoms "in 48 hours." Since yesterday there is no bubbling in the sea and the intensity of the tremor has decreased.
These two phenomena could be symptoms of a "disappearance of the process or the emergence of a new point of eruption in another area," which could be on the ground.
Rivero said the inability of residents of La Restinga can not return permanently to their homes, due to security measures at the inability to determine the causes of the current phenomenon and its consequences. "It's logical uncertainty felt by the neighbors," he said, but "the priority is the safety of citizens."
The president argued that the Pevolca canary "is working perfectly" and that all measures being taken by authorities are based on the recommendations of scientists. He moved that "today you may decide to relax some," as the eviction of the residents of La Restinga or passage in the tunnel restringuido The Roquille.

The El Roquillo tunnel remains open only for commercial and emergency vehicles.
