Finland's Sonera Plaza has posted several photos of STRATOVARIUS performing at Spain's Piorno Rock festival on Saturday, including pictures of keyboardist Jens Johansson pissing (literally!) on guitarist Timo Tolkki during the opening notes of the song "Forever" (no, we're not kidding).

Ze maken idd echt goeie muziek! Maar de meeste finse bands maken goeie muziek.
Ik zelf ben fan van Children of Bodom, wel harder dan stratovarius maar wel goed.

TIMO KOTIPELTO: I'm Not Interested In Playing Another Show With STRATOVARIUS - Apr. 3, 2004

Ex-STRATOVARIUS singer Timo Kotipelto was asked by Skipmag.de last month if he has any intentions of performing with his former bandmates at their scheduled appearance at Germany's Rock Hard festival in late May. "Let me put it like this," Timo replied. " One and a half weeks ago I played a festival in Spain. I really tried to give my best to the fans and to sing as good as possible. [Drummer] Jörg [Michael] did the same. But the other guys, especially [guitarist Timo] Tolkki and [keyboardist Jens] Johansson, messed up the whole show. That really pissed me off! I don't know if you've already read it somewhere but after the first song Mr. Boss [i.e. Tolkki] left the stage and return later really drunk. And then Johansson did something that really shouldn't be done on stage (Johansson urinated on Tolkki's leg during the song "Forever" — Ed.). That's simply not fair. I try to give my best for those people who paid all that money for their tickets. And I really don't want all this shit to happen on the stage. That really sucks! It was already hard enough for me to go to the rehearsals and then on stage with those people. If they do such shit then, it's not fair. At the moment I'm really not interested in playing another show with these people. But this can change within one month. I also think that these shows will take place, though I heard that Tolkki has in mind to dissolve the band. But I think there are many fans that want to see us live and also people that want to see me sing live and never saw us live or missed the last tour. I think we should try to do all this [in a] professional [manner]. I don't have to talk to these people after the show and they don't have to talk to me, but I think if these gigs take place, that every one of us should play as good as possible instead of doing all this shit." Gatver, Kitsch-metal...

I hope you can see this because I'm doing it as hard as I can.

STRATOVARIUS Begin Recording New Album - Apr. 17, 2004

STRATOVARIUS keyboardist Jens Johansson has posted the following message in the band's official forum:

"This is a sort of informal update.

"I went to Helsinki, basically to try and help with anything I could. Am here now.

"Jörg Michael will play on the next STRATOVARIUS record (as he is very good of course, and there was no other good drummer materializing out of thin air.)

"He has finished most of the drums, whether Timo will like them or not when he is ready to listen we will see.

"The drums are being recorded in Helsinki. Timo disappeared right on the day they were starting the basic tracks. So for the week before I came, Jörg has been recording in the studio, ALONE, only with a click and nothing else to guide him, just remembering the songs in his head! He was the only guy slaving away in the studio and he's not even in the band! Yes, this is bizarre stuff but if anyone rises to such an occasion it is Jörg I think.

"The new singer Katriina ('Miss K') I haven't actually met yet. And Jari really seems to have dropped off the face of the planet.

"So let's see. So far I have: a singer I never met, a drummer who's not in the band, a bass player who is on another planet, and the main songwriter and producer went to a psychiatric hospital last week. I know all this looks very bad, but the strange thing is that I still very much have some hope left.

"Because I can say is that the songs are really killer, and the drums are good.

"This means anything is possible.

"There are many other things going on, I suppose everyone heard about a few of them already...

"I'm doing fine personally, I still have the hope that like many problems, these will right themselves given some time.

"I have collected my recording gear that was stored here. It all survived the winter and it works. I try to will record... something. I will help with anything that I can. Timo's studio is not operational quite yet, but it is pretty close I believe. [I can verify that his SSL is there, I saw it and I touched it, it's real! ]

"There is a sauna in the apartment me and Jörg are staying in. There are beers in the fridge. The songs and the drums are good. I am one of the worst pessimists out there. If I say there is hope, then be sure that there actually is hope!"

STRATOVARIUS guitarist Timo Tolkki has issued the following statement via the group's official web site:

"I have returned home from the hospital and I feel a little better now.

"I have had a lot of time to think and analyze the situation that lead to my complete breakdown.

"First and foremost I would like to thank Doctor Raili Kauppinen of ward 42 of Mehiläinen Hospital. I don´t think I would be here anymore without her encouraging rational thinking and support.

"Secondly I want to thank my wife, daughter and my relatives, and my band for their love and support.

"Thirdly I want to thank those legions of STRATOVARIUS fans who sent me their messages of love and support.

"I have read each and every one of them and I was truly touched by what you wrote. I have received over 3000 messages. I cannot thank you enough ever for your support.

"I finally realized that I have an illness.

"I completely lost control of myself. I have never felt more horrible, afraid and helpless in my entire life.

"Lying in the hospital, one of the feelings that forced its way to my consciousness was this: I have been taking the wrong path. Memories and feelings filled my mind from the past STRATOVARIUS tours and recording sessions. I became so sad for the loss. And the loss was also connected to my therapy, to my father somehow and to the starting of my studio. All these feelings at the same time almost made me end my life. These things, together with the stressful events of the last few months, were too overwhelming for me.

"I felt what many STRATOVARIUS fans must have felt about the turmoil and changes in the band they love. And finally I saw it clearly. STRATOVARIUS is Timo Kotipelto, Jens Johansson, Jörg Michael, Jari Kainulainen and Timo Tolkki. If this line up is not possible, then there cannot be any band called STRATOVARIUS. The current situation is not fair to the fans, and it is not fair to Katriina (Miss K), who by now is very wary of this situation.

"From my side I can say that I will use my every strength to do these few last shows, I promise that I will be there, and that I am also up for trying to solve the problems with Timo Kotipelto, if he still is willing to try. I am hoping that with a little work, he will have have compassion, understanding and forgiveness for my behaviour the past year. This will not be easy and it will not be cheap. But if we can't sit down like men and talk and solve them together, then 'Elements Part II' will be STRATOVARIUS' final record and after the last show this summer on July 3 STRATOVARIUS will die. That is the most fair thing to everybody, no matter the financial disaster which will be the result for all of us in who are left the band (excepting Katriina who I am planning to release from the contract in this case).

"Despite this bad news, I have learned a lot about myself in these last days and I wish you all sunny and nice springtime."

the Czech UEFA2004 football team use Stratovarius' music in their dressing room before the games to get in the winning mood! The songs Glory Of The World and Why Are We Here are among the ones they use. This is according to an official information from CTK (the Czech Press Office). So far they won every UEFA 2004 game using this method, and almost 22 games in a row.
