Joe stands at 6-foot-3, 280 pounds, and was a standout football player at Georgia Tech, where he was voted first team all-ACC defensive tackle during his senior season in 2006.

After going undrafted in the 2007 NFL Draft, Anoa'i signed as a free agent with the Minnesota Vikings in May 2007.

Unfortunately, his stint with the Vikings only lasted a few weeks, as he was cut at the end of May.

Joe was able to sign on as a free agent with the Jacksonville Jaguars in August 2007 , but was cut a few days later. Anoa'i continued to pursue a career in football by going to the CFL, and signing with the Edmonton Eskimos as a practice squad player in June 2008.

It was expected that the 25-year-old Anoa'i would pursue a pro wrestling career if football didn't work out
