Format
The show follows performers who move into a house in Hollywood, California. The house is wired with 56[2] cameras so the contestants can be viewed online 24/7. Each contestant has been judged to excel in either one of the creative arts, sport or fashion and the premise of the show will be to follow them as they attempt to succeed in their chosen field. The show will attempt to be fully interactive, using all popular forms of new media to allow participants to communicate and make decisions with the audience. The show's website will stream footage from the house and participants will have a regular blog alongside holding regular webchats. This will be alongside participants Myspace, Facebook and Twitter accounts.
As of December 2009, the house is ready and the participants have moved in. The television aspect of the show will be weekly 30-minute highlight shows airing first through Hulu then later through a traditional broadcast network. Clear Channel will handle radio aspects and MySpace is the production's online partner. The format has potential to be long term due to the fact that as one participant becomes successful and leaves the house, another will take the place, after being voted in through a public vote, starting the process over. PepsiCo and Ford Motor Company have signed on to sponsor the project.
Technology
Aside from introducing a new paradigm of reality based programming, If I Can Dream also represents a significant leap forward in Live Video production across the public Internet. The If I Can Dream House is wired with 56 H.264 cameras delivering content across 3 CDNs (Akamai, BitGravity and Highwinds). Video feeds are available at both 500 Kbps and 1 Mbps, offering quality options to match the diversity of broadband and end user hardware configurations available today. As designed, If I Can Dream will be the largest persistent live "event" produced by a media company.
Accompanying the new technology platform is a state-of-the-art website built by a renown interactive design firm. Of note are features that allow the user to only tune in to "themes", "individuals", "all cameras" and even a "just watch" feature that allows the shows on site producers to push the most interesting or most viewed stream directly to your screen. Once in full screen mode this feature feels and works a lot like you'd expect a television show to behave, with the exception that the cast can break the "3rd wall" and interact with the viewer at any time.

Je moet ze wel even leren kennen, wil dit leuk worden. Ik denk dat ik me er maar eens in ga verdiepen, SV daagt me intellectueel niet genoeg meer uit.
Ik ben echt benieuwd hoe lang wij foreigners mogen meekijken met dit prachtige HD gebeuren.

Maar het zijn wel serieuze, ambitieuze mensen geloof ik. Niet dat de nooit los kunnen zijn, maar ik zie hier geen figuren tussen die gierend ut de bocht gaan vliegen zoals driekwart van de deelnemers aan DGK dat wél deed.
