Je hebt trouwens ook mensen die de wens hebben om een bepaald lichaamsdeel geamputeerd te krijgen. Zo'n iemand voelt zich gehandicapt in een normaal lichaam en zal zich pas goed voelen wanneer de gewenste amputatie is uitgevoerd.
Body Integrity Identity Disorder heet deze stoornis.
hehe overheen gelezenHeb inderdaad wel eens op tv iets gezien over een man die per se wilde dat zn voet geamputeerd werd omdat het niet voelde als een deel van hem, vrij bizar.

Ik vind het contrast in de OP wel grappig tussen de culturen waren de modificaties onderdeel zijn van het 'erbij horen', terwijl je je in de Westerse wereld juist vaak wil onderscheiden van de rest ermee.
Ik ben zelf overigens geen fan van al die extreme vormen van lichaamsmodificatie. Ik vind lang niet alle piercings mooi en tunnels al helemaal niet, meeste tatoeages ook niet eigenlijk.

The 29-year-old adds a new tattoo to his body every day and describes it as a calling.
'Without feeling the needle feels like I'm losing my purpose in life,' he said in the promo video for the the reality series Freakshow.
'My body will never be done. This is my story. I'm still living so my story cannot be done.'
But with such talent also comes drawbacks as he reveals the negatives to looking the way he does.
'Because of this dedication, the average person draws themselves away from me or grabs their kids in fear of you.
'Knowing that I have a daughter who is five-years-old -- her name is Mia -- it's a hard thing to deal with. A hard road.'
He said Mia's mother, his ex-wife, has never really supported his decision.
'She's known me from the beginning, but since I've made the transformation, it's still something that was hard for her to deal with,' he said.
The few times he has seen his daughter he said she was scared of him. Luckily his two-year-old son - by another woman - does not share the same feeling.
'He's not scared of me, he loves me.'
Other 'freaks' who appear on the reality series with him include, Amazing Ali, the miniature woman; Goth-fashioned Morgue, whose bag of tricks includes plunging a drill bit up his nose and George, who, at 7-feet-8-inches, is the resident Tall Man.
