Brand op hoofdkantoor Google in Londen

The blaze appeared to have started in a barbecue on a terrace on top of the office building on Buckingham Palace Road.

Witnesses in neighbouring blocks broke news of the fire on Twitter, the micro-blogging website this afternoon.

"There's a tree on fire on one of Google office roof terraces across the road" wrote one.

The flames died down within a few minutes but smoke continued to pour out into the sky as firefighters on a raised platform struggled to reach the source of the flames.

At least five crews from London Fire Brigade attended the scene of the blaze, opposite Victoria train station

There was no immediate word on the cause of the fire from the Google press office, which is based inside the building.
