Terreuraanslagen Mumbai
De aanslagen zijn opgeëist door een islamitische beweging die zichzelf Deccan Mujahedeen noemt. De voorheen onbekende groep heeft een e-mail gestuurd naar diverse media in India.
Schutters openden het vuur op verschillende plaatsen in de stad. Het gaat vooral om plekken waar veel toeristen komen, zoals vijfsterrenhotels, een bij toeristen populair café-restaurant, in het centraal station, bij een vliegveld en in een bioscoop.
Terreur
De politie heeft bevestigd dat het om een terreuraanslag gaat. De schutters gebruikten automatische machinegeweren en handgranaten.
Op het station en in twee luxueuze hotels zijn in de nacht van woensdag op donderdag (lokale tijd) explosies gehoord. De lobby's van beide hotels zouden in brand staan. Het leger is het vijfsterren Oberoi hotel binnengevallen, waar zich nog terroristen en gasten zouden bevinden.
Taj Mahal
Het tweede hotel betreft het Taj Mahal. Daar bevinden zich nog schutters, die een aantal mensen hebben gegijzeld. Het zou vooral om westerlingen gaan.
Het dak van het vijfsterrenhotel staat inmiddels in lichterlaaie. Ook wordt er geschoten en zijn er explosies te horen.
Een Britse ooggetuige heeft op de Indiase televisie verklaard, dat de aanvallers op zoek waren naar mensen met Britse en Amerikaanse paspoorten. Een aantal luxehotels heeft hun gasten gewaarschuwd binnen te blijven of niet naar hun hotel terug te keren.
Onder de doden is onder meer de commandant van het antiterrorismeteam van Mumbai. Een aantal Europeanen zou gewond zijn geraakt. Het is onduidelijk of er ook sprake is van Nederlandse slachtoffers. Het Nederlandse consulaat probeert dit te achterhalen. Door de enorme chaos ter plaatse kan dit nog enige tijd duren.
Unie
De Verenigde Staten en de Europese Unie hebben de aanslagen sterk veroordeeld.
India heeft de afgelopen jaren te maken gehad met een reeks aanslagen. Voor de meeste aanslagen zouden islamitische militanten verantwoordelijk zijn. Hindoe-extremisten zouden ook achter enkele aanslagen zitten.
CNN meldt dat ook op het vliegveld van Bombay een bom zou zijn afgegaan.

NDTV are reporting two terrorists have been killed and three are reported to have fled in a black car.

eigenlijk niet want er komen van alle kanten berichten binnen over slachtoffers. En er worden nog steeds aanslagen gepleegd op dit moment dus het zal vast nog wel flink oplopen.

The five-star Hotel Oberoi is also under siege and gunmen are reported to have held the occupants hostage.
Reports say 10 gunmen are holed up inside Hotel Oberoi and the Rapid Action Force is considering storming the hotels.
The shooting at the hotels was reported between 2215 hrs IST and 2230 hrs IST when bullets, apparently from automatic weapons, were fired at police and paramilitary forces outside the Taj Hotel.
The lobby of Hotel Oberoi is reportedly on fire. The RAF is considering storming the hotels.

The next, near simultaneous shooting took place near the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus police station in which six people were injured.
Police have cordoned off the CST Railway Terminus, a crowded place at this time of the evening, and have stopped entry.
Press Trust of India reports two persons armed with automatic weapons and hand grenades are holed up inside the CST station.
PTI also reports three people, employees of Taj Hotel in South Mumbai, were killed after being fired upon by terrorists and an equal number of people died in a bomb blast in a taxi at Dockyard Road.
The Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, headquarters of the Central Railway, is a world heritage building and remains crowded almost throughout the day.
Local train services to and from CST have been suspended. A police official said he saw two people, armed with automatic weapons at CST.
"They opened indiscriminate fire and fled inside. They are reported to be holed up between platform seven and eight," he said.
Two more blasts have been reported from Majhgaon and BPT Colony.
