Singapore Airlines Cancels Flights to and from Bangkok on 26 November 2008
Singapore Airlines will cancel all its flights to and from Bangkok today due to the deteriorating security situation, and a lack of operational service staff, at Suvarnabhumi Airport.
Customers booked on flights today are being contacted to advise that their flights have been cancelled. Efforts will be made to reaccommodate those customers on flights when the security situation stabilises and flights resume.
Customers whose flights have been cancelled should contact their travel agent, or if the booking was made directly with Singapore Airlines, contact any Singapore Airlines Reservations Service Centre (in Singapore, 6223 8888).
Customers and meeters and greeters are advised to stay in touch with flight information via the Company's website (singaporeair.com) via FLIGHT STATUS or by calling the Changi Airport flight information hotline on 1800 542 4422.
An assessment will be made later about flight operations beyond today, and further advice will be issued on the Singapore Airlines website, singaporeair.com, and by way of a media advice.
Singapore Airlines apologises to customers for the inconvenience caused by this disruption, however seeks the understanding of customers that the security situation in Bangkok necessitates this cancellation in the interests of the safety of operations.

You may use your credit shell to redeem a seat on the next available flight to/from Bangkok within 3 days from your original date of travel (subject to Bangkok airport reopens and availability of seats).
Please note that these arrangements do not require a contact with our Call Centre.

Nou, niet overdrijven hoor... Zo'n granaat is waardeloos natuurlijk en eindeloos wachten is vervelend, maar Thailand is een groot land. Ik was twee maanden geleden in Bangkok tijdens al die protesten en heb er nauwelijks wat van gemerkt.

Whehe... als het vliegveld gesloten is, kom je het land niet eens in, want Bangkok is het grootste vliegveld daar, toch? Internationale vluchten vanuit grote delen in de wereld naar Bangkok kunnen niet uitgevoerd worden. Ik zeg ook niet dat het leuk is, of handig, maar ik word altijd een beetje moe van mensen die gelijk een heel land (voor heel lang) afschrijven als er iets gebeurd. Zeker als het om dingen gaat waar je als gewone toerist alleen in het geval van hele vette pech iets van meekrijgt.

Kan, maar de meeste toeristen hebben niet zo'n vlucht geboekt of kunnen deze nu nog veranderen he.. daarom stelde ik dus dat de reputatie wel hard achteruit gaat zo..quote:

Heel lang afschrijven doe ik het niet hoor, alleen op dit moment zou ik er voor geen goud in de buurt willen zijn (die protesten in Bangkok dus)... en dan kan de rest perfect veilig zijn uiteraard.

Zeer vervelend voor de mensen die zijn gestrand op het vliegveld, verder is er niet veel (nieuws) aan de hand hier in de stad.
Ik verwacht dat ze die demonstranten niet al te lang laten verblijven daar op het vliegveld, omdat dat een enorm gezichtsverlies betekend voor de authoriteiten en omdat de financiele gevolgen ook niet gering zullen zijn. Dat kan natuurlijk wel tot wat gevaarlijkere situaties leiden, maar dat kunnen we alleen maar afwachten.

In vrijwel elk ander land zou er onmiddelijk ingegrepen worden als het belangrijkste vliegveld platgelegd wordt.

Daardoor is gisteravond de China Airlines vlucht van Amsterdam naar Bangkok teruggekeerd op Schiphol. Vlucht was om 1430 vertrokken, en 2030 waren ze weer terug. Lekker 6 uurtjes vliegen, en vervolgens weer op de plaats van vertrek aankomen

De opperbevelhebber van het Thaise leger heeft de regering opgeroepen om af te treden. Hij vindt dat alleen nieuwe verkiezingen de politieke crisis in het land kunnen oplossen.
Verder riep de legerleider de demonstranten op om het vliegveld van Bangkok te verlaten.
De verkeerstoren werd gisteren bestormd door anti-regeringsdemonstranten. Die eisen het aftreden van premier Somchai, omdat die nauwe contacten onderhoudt met de afgezette premier Thaksin.
