Tomonobu Itagaki van Team Ninja (de ontwikkelaar van de Ninja Gaiden spellen) heeft in een interview aangegeven dat als het aan hem ligt er na Ninja Gaiden II geen vervolgen meer zullen komen in de Ninja Gaiden-serie. Itagaki had het hier niet alleen over nieuwe delen voor de Xbox 360 maar ook voor andere systemen zal hij geen nieuwe Ninja Gaiden-spellen meer maken.

Personally I think we were able to create the definitive 3D game in this series so I'm not planning on making any other games in the series.

Volgens Itagaki zal Ninja Gaiden II alle mogelijk aspecten van het spel verkennen en is er vrijwel geen ruimte meer voor nieuwe toevoegingen na dit deel. Als Ninja Gaiden II een groot succes is kunnen de uitgevers Tecmo en Microsoft er echter altijd voor kiezen een vervolg te maken, al is het door een andere ontwikkelaar. Ninja Gaiden II zal op 6 juni aanstaande in de Nederlandse winkels liggen.
