Masters Race Update

Four bids given, four anxiously awaited. With Nadal, Federer, Djokovic, and Murray already secured into the season-ending Shanghai Masters, only four the top eight players in the world who will compete, Andy is looking good as the tenth Masters is another week closer.

Before Andy crossed the Pacific, he had resided at 7 ATP Place. His title at the China Open awarded him enough points to leapfrog the Beijing defending champion, David Ferrer with 337 points now, into sixth. Ferrer, however, was eliminated in the quarterfinals by Del-Potro(9), who is two points away from knocking James Blake out of the running with 307, and Andy went onto the semis to secure his position for one more week, holding at 354.

As for what’s to come, Andy will be in Madrid - 2.1 million euro purse and 500 race pts to the winner- while Ferrer(7) will be in Vienna – 700,000 euro purse and 250 pts. James Blake is also accompanying his compatriot to Madrid where the two recently played in the Davis Cup semifinals. Del Potro is stopping in Vienna so Andy’s chances of being bumped out three places are looking less and less likely.

Though Andy has not reached the quarterfinals at the eighth Masters Series event in all of his four years there, he is swinging well and hitting all the right angles, shots, and lines recently. Let’s hope he keeps up the momentum!

Roddick was bundled out 6-4 3-6 6-3 by France's Gael Monfils, while seventh seed Nalbandian was outplayed 6-4 6-2 by Argentine compatriot Juan Martin del Potro.

Fast-serving Roddick struggled to adjust to the slower conditions on court two and was beaten by Monfils.

Roddick said he played "horrible".

"I just felt a little out of it [mentally] which is not the norm and makes it a bit frustrating," the former US Open champion said.

Despite the defeat, the eighth-ranked American is still in the running to secure one of the four remaining berths in the eight-man season-ending Masters Cup in Shanghai.
