Barnsley Football Club is een Engelse voetbalclub, opgericht in 1887 en in seizoen 2006/07 uitkomend in de Football League Championship. De club speelt zijn thuiswedstrijden in Oakwell Stadium.
De club werd in 1898 toegelaten tot de Football League en ze beleefden hun hoogtepunt tot op heden door in 1912 in de FA Cup-finale West Bromwich Albion te verslaan. Twee jaar eerder was Newcastle United te sterk geweest in de finale.
In 1997 werd promotie naar de Premier League afgedwongen, maar ze degradeerden meteen weer. De club ging bijna failliet. Pas toen voormalig Leeds United-voorzitter Peter Ridsdale ingreep, was de club gered. Echter was de club inmiddels wel nogmaals gedegradeerd naar de huidige Football League One. In seizoen 2005/06 werd via de play-offs de weg omhoog weer ingeslagen en werd promotie naar de Football League Championship afgedwongen.

Dat had Marciano van Homoet ook nooit kunnen denken, toen hij bij Sparta moest vertrekken. Zat serieus aan een overgang naar DOTO of Capelle te denken en dan kan je lekker in Engeland ballen en ook nog eens zo stunten in het mooiste bekertoernooi ter wereld.

Barnsley have turned down what they describe as a "decent" offer from Bristol City for their highly-rated Brazilian midfielder Anderson De Silva. Reds boss Simon Davey says the 26-year-old has attracted interest from the Robins for a couple of weeks but their bid did not match Barnsley's valuation.
Davey told BBC Radio Sheffield: "We've given them a figure and they'll come back or not come back. At the moment, it's not right for the club to sell Anderson."
Barnsley signed De Silva from Everton at the beginning of last season after he had spent a year on loan at Oakwell.
