Het fenomeen Mambo Kurt

Mambo Kurt is een Duitser. Ja, een Duitser. Afgezien daarvan is hij best wel geniaal. Mensen kennen hem misschien van dat hij voor Nederland een nummer schreef voor het WK voetbal van vorig jaar, of wie al eens op Wacken Open Air geweest is zal 'm daar vast wel gezien hebben, en dit jaar was hij in Nederland op Paaspop in Schijndel te zien (en misschien ook nog wel ergens anders).





Hier dan even z'n biografie:

There are days, when Abba is too heavy or slayer too soft. For all other moods there is the new
album from Mambo Kurt, „Spiel Heimorgel spiel“. Our all round loved, and lightly eccentric organ
god has put together and re-interpreted a pleasant mix of well known world hits on his beloved
organ. He does this in his own inimitable way which brings a smile to every listener’s face and
leaves them dancing around the room. Mambo Kurt celebrates the art of ommitance and not being
able to sing, that he becomes a real pleasure to listen to. Every song is a homage to the original
artists. Nothing gets the legs going like a rhumba played at 124 bpm. A good song remains a good
song even if it is played on the world’s biggest built home organ (the actual price at online auctions
is about 50 Euros). Through it all you get „Rage against the machine“ as Swing, „Nirvana“ as
Mambo, „Tina Turner“ as Highspeed-Polka and „Slayer“ as Hardrock. As a secret superstar, Mambo’s
ex-organ tutor, Heidi Schulz has creeped onto the album giving her own special rendition of „God
save the queen“. With her 87 years the lyric „no future for me“, has a completely new meaning.
Spiel Heimorgel spiel is positively the best stuff that Mambo Kurt has ever recorded in his living
room, a perfect all round party album. The perfect soundtrack to clean the kitchen, drive the car or
making love.

In 1982 Mambo Kurt was the west German champion in playing the home organ in the age group
under 14’s. At the end of the nineties he played cover songs on his organ for the fi rst time for his
own small circle of friends. He immediately had a large fan community in the heavy metal scene,
because Mambo had a fondness for rock songs. Legendary is his version of „Enter Sandman“ as a
waltz. The Trash-Hype at the turn of the millennium threw Mambo onto the TV, on RTL and VIVA2 to
be exact. Then a position followed at the Hannover Schauspielhaus, (theatre) in 2003, and a job as
composer for ARTE. Mambo Kurt is the only artist who has been allowed to bring fun to the world’s
biggest heavy metal festival after having three weeks earlier, performed at the Wiesbaden Theatre
Festival. In 2006 Mambo was on the road as fan ambassador with the ARD for the FIFA World Cup.
As president of the German-Holland football frienship society, he managed to work the magic of
releasing a world cup single in both Holland and Germany. For the last two years, Mambo has been
the presenter for the DVD-programme for the magazine ROCKHARD. Mambo Kurt can also be seen
once a week on TV as the smallest studio band in the world on the SWR latenight show.
What can the viewer await live? A solo entertainer with a home organ, playing cover versions of
songs, that you would never expect to be played on an organ. Hard rock and Pop classics receive
an individual style and groove totally. The home organ delivers something akin to a musical tsunami
with their plastic sounds giving everybody dancing feet and from the fi rst beat, the Mambo Kurt
fan is made very happy. Added to this comes sometimes unreasoned, but also sometimes highly
stimulating passages from the master, it grooves, it rocks. World class. Mambo is the only one,
where Slayer is allowed to come over like „Dr. Alban“, and after „Abba“ „Rage against the Machine“,
follows without anybody being able to argue that it’s not right. A Mambo Kurt concert is only
successful when there’s stagediving and a conga, and up until now this has happened every time.
The Terminator under the solo entertainers is back, Mambo divides the masses quicker than Moses
the sea, love him or hate him. Spiel Heimorgel Spiel!!!
