1981. In vele opzichten een boeiend jaar.
Het jaar waarin Anthrax, Dark Angel, Metallica, Pantera en Slayer werden gevormd. Ha! Het was de periode van Ultravox, The Human League, Soft Cell, Adam & The Ants, etc... Voor de die-hards was er Bucks Fizz.
Op TV-vlak zagen we het debuut van Hill Street Blues, Dynasty en Falcon Crest. Oh ja, ook de Smurfen. Buck Rogers, Charlie's Angels en Soap worden geschrapt.
Verder trouwt ene Charles met ene Diana en krijgt de hele wereld een harde klap te verwerken wanneer een aanslag op de Paus mislukt.
Op filmvlak koopt MGM United Artists op, nadat de winsten van Heaven's Gate lichtjes bleken tegen te vallen. Natalie Wood ging zwemmen en had dat niet mogen doen.
Er vallen heel wat boeiende geboortes te melden op mediavlak. We mochten onder andere Bryce Dallas Howard, Michael Pitt, Joseph Gordon-Levitt en .... ach ja.. Alexis Bledel verwelkomen. Helaas was het niet altijd raak, het was ook het jaar van Paris Hilton, Nicole Ritchie, Britney Spears en Béyonce, geen onverdeeld succes . Ook bij de heren was er met Hayden Christensen en Chad Michael Murray toch wel sprake van enige wisselvalligheid. Tot slot mag iedereen voor zichzelf beslissen of Justin Timberlake goed of slecht nieuws was .
