In zijn geboorteplaats Gary in Indiana is op brute wijze bij een schietpartij een familie om het leven gebracht. Michael voelde zich verplicht een daad te stellen en verdubbelt het tipgeld dat wordt ingezameld. De politie heeft al $100.000 ingelegd.
Bij de moord kwam een 23 maanden oud kindje om het leven, tezamen met zijn vader en diens vrouw.
De politie hoopt dat met de bemoeienis van Michael Jackson er meer aandacht komt voor de zaak en dat deze zodoende sneller wordt opgelost.
Michael Jackson To Match Donations of Reward For Information On Killings of Gary, Indiana Family
Michael Jackson will match any donation given to a fund that has been set up by a local Gary activist. The fund is to help the family of the victims that were shot to death in their home on January 17, 2004. "He really felt compelled to reach out. What he has offered to do is match the funds that we raise," Derrick Mosley, Bringing About Reform, speaking about Jackson.
One of the victims was a 23-month old child named Anthony McClendon. He perished in the killings with his father, Anthony, Sr., Jimmy Jones and his wife, Laurice.
Police believe that as many as three people were involved in the shooting. Police are offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the perpetrators involved in the killings.
The police hope that the attention of Jackson´s involvement will help find the people responsible for the murders.
"Human nature will dictate eventually someone will lose a certain degree of interest and then it becomes harder us to get the public support," said Sgt. Thomas Branson, Gary Police Department.
The family of the little boy killed have asked for witnesses to come forward. "If you saw car, tell it. Think of that baby. And tell it. That´s all we´re asking. We´re pleading with you to tell it," said Thames.
