Time Commanders

The year is 217 BC. The place is Raphia, near Gaza. Two nearly identical armies led by the heirs of Alexander The Great fight to control the border territories that separate their rival kingdoms.
From a hi-tech war-room which resembles a modern military command and control centre, a team of celebrities take control of the army of Ptolemy IV of Egypt against the forces of the Seleucid Kingdom in the East. Al Murray (the Pub Landlord) and Kate Silverton (co-presenter of The Politics Show) are the team's Generals; Ricky Groves (Garry in Eastenders) and Raji James (Ash in Eastenders) are their lieutenants.
Using real-time computer graphics, the team are in charge of an army of 68,000 men and 73 war elephants, but will they know how to use them? And will Al and Kate maintain control of their forces, or will their lieutenants take charge?
Watching the team's every move are two military experts. From their vantage point above the war-room, they assess the team's command structure, their communication and tactical skills, and compare their performance to what happened at the real battle of Raphia more than 2000 years ago.

The Battle of Raphia, in 217 BC, was a part of the ongoing series of 'Syrian Wars' between the Ptolemies and the Seleucids. Antiochus III, the current Seleucid king, had been actively and aggressively reducing Ptolemaic holdings in Syria from 220BC. Egypt was in crisis, the Ptolemy army was very weak, and Ptolemy IV had few troops. Sosibus, his talented minister saved Egypt by enrolling and training an army of natives. As Antiochus III advanced south with a large army consisting of 6,000 cavalry, 102 Indian elephants, and 62,000 infantry. Ptolemy IV was able to meet him with 5,000 cavalry, 73 African elephants, and 70,000 infantry at Raphia on the plains near Gaza.

The year is 216 BC, the place is Cannae, in Southern Italy. Ten thousand Roman soldiers have assembled to crush the invasion of Hannibal, a young African general with big ideas.
From a 21st century military command centre, using high tech real-time graphics, a team of police officers from Bedfordshire constabulary attempt to recreate Hannibal's tactical genius and inflict a humiliating defeat on Rome. But can the forces of law and order impose their will on the battlefield? Can a bunch of bobbies repeat one of the greatest moments in military history?
Overseeing the team's tactics are two military experts, Dr Aryeh Nusbacher (Senior Lecturer in War Studies, Sandhurst) and Dr Adrian Goldsworthy (military historian) who will assess the team's performance and reveal the secrets of Hannibal's success.

The battle of Cannae is rightly regarded as one of the greatest battles of military history. Apart from it being the greatest defeat ever suffered by Roman arms, Hannibal's stratagem has become a model of the perfectly fought battle and is studied in detail at military academies around the world. Following his invasion of Italy during the Second Punic War Hannibal inflicted two bloody defeats on Rome at the River Trebbia and at the battle of Lake Trasimene, in the case of the latter destroying the consular army of Caius Flaminius. After this disaster the Romans determined to ensure both Consuls were present at any future battle. At Cannae the Romans confronted Hannibal with an army of 80,000 infantry and 6,000 cavalry under both consuls who because of a quirk of Roman politics commanded on alternate days. Hannibal faced them with 40,000 foot and 10,000 horse drawn up on a clear plain where there could be no threat of hidden troops (such as at Trasimene) effectively using his whole army as bait. The battle which followed is a masterpiece of battlefield control. Hannibal allowed his centre to give ground, drawing in the more numerous Roman infantry while his cavalry drove off that of the enemy. Having defeated their counterparts the Carthaginian cavalry returned and charged into the rear of the struggling Roman Legions. By the end of the battle the Romans lost 47,500 infantry and 2,700 cavalry killed and a further 19,300 captured. Mark Healy recounts this battle in detail as well as explaining Hannibal's campaign before it, with particular attention to his invasion of Italy.

Ze kregen wel een gruwelijk moeilijke veldslag voor hun kiezen, eigenlijk alleen te winnen door een militaire genie, zoals Hannibal zelf dus
Op het spel moeten nog een JAAR wachten 
Nou ja voldoende tijd om te sparen voor een snellere pc die je ongetwijfeld nodig zult hebben.

2 oktober bij het gevecht van Tigranocerta: De romeinse AI was te slecht, het viel na het doorwaden van een rivier meteen aan met de troepen die beschikbaar kwamen inplaats van (historisch correct) eerst te hergroeperen en dan met één schok aan te vallen.
18 September: Ceasar tegen de Ga.. de Ga.. de Galliërs. Door zich strak aan hun eerste planning te houden, en de mazzel dat door de opoffering van de lichte infanterie de gallische hoofdmacht niet tegelijk met de omtrekkende beweging aankwam hebben hun romeinen stand weten te houden: goede discipline tegen een overmacht. Als de zware infanterie naar de lichte gegaan was zou het leger verspreid raken en stukje bij beetje in mootjes gehakt worden. Meer verdiend, in ieder geval.

In de Mongol Horde uitbreiding, of de Warlord edition zitten de mongolen. Ook daar heb ik helaas alleen maar het basisspel van. Die heb ik een paar jaar geleden gespeeld.

Ws zijn de makers niet tevreden na het zien van de statisch reagerende soldaten op zo'n groot scherm en willen meer interactie zien met de situatie. Hoop ik.
