* Mario 128 is nog steeds in de maak (anders had Shigeru deze game wel genoemd als gestaakte game).
* Mario 128 wordt geen gewone platformer maar een nieuw project. Verwacht dus een totaal ander spel hier dan bij Super Mario Sunshine.

NP: For those who are new to the series how would you sum up Burnout 2s gameplay?

AW: Fast and addictive arcade style racing. The fastest racing experience available on any console.

NP: Is the GameCube version a direct port of the Playstation 2 game?

AW: No, its a new and improved version, taking into account the strengths of the hardware.

NP: Will GameCube owners benefit from any new features or technical enhancements over the Playstation 2 version?

AW: Yes, we doubled the size of one of the most popular game modes the Crash for Cash Mode. We wanted to add some extra content. Many players expect this automatically, but often there are many reasons as to why this cannot be achieved. The Crash mode was very well received, so we decided to create some new gameplay for this mode. In the PS2 version there were fifteen crash junctions in total. There were two junctions which were completed but never made it in to the PS2 version. An additional thirteen junctions have been specially created.

NP: Why was it decided to release Burnout 2 for the Playstation 2 first and not the other two consoles?

AW: We are a small team and we simply did not have the resource available to develop for all three systems at once. Plus this way we can specialize on each format and take our time with them.

NP: There are many beautifully crafted vehicles that depict real life counterparts, why were no licensed cars featured in the game?

AW: Auto companies are not too keen to show their cars being either driven dangerously or ripped apart in fantastic accidents. Real licensing has never been something we have investigated because we already know it will never happen.

NP: How long has the development time for the GameCube version been?

AW: A couple of months.

NP: The PS2 version features 2 player support, will Burnout 2 take advantage of the GameCubes 4 player capabilities?

AW: We already draw a hell of a lot of stuff onscreen. We manage to do a 2P split screen mode with no loss of detail. A 4P mode would look awful so we dont offer this.

NP: How are the controls mapped onto the GameCube controller? Are they similar to that of the original Burnout?

AW: Yes, the same control system as the first title will be used.

NP: A big draw of the game is the crashes with the cars, have you thought about featuring fully destructible environments?

AW: Yes, but it is not something we decided to pursue. We want to keep the game experience very focused. Its about racing, always moving forwards, heading to the goal. If we start to consider smashing up everything in the game world, the user may lose focus as to the core game experience and become confused.

    LA QUINTA, Calif., Feb 25 (Reuters) - ATI Technologies Inc , locked in a battle with rival Nvidia Corp (nasdaq: NVDA - news - people) over bragging rights to the fastest graphic chip, plans to release its most-advanced PC chip yet within the next month or so, a company executive said on Tuesday.

    Dave Rolston, ATI's vice president of engineering, said at a Goldman Sachs technology conference here that the company's R350 chip would be "coming out, say, within the next 30 days."

    The R350 chip will be the high-end successor to ATI's Radeon 9700 chip. A new version of that chip geared toward the mainstream market is also coming in the next 30 days, he said.

    That Radeon 9700 variant will be built using 130 nanometer technology, or .13 micron, which is a reference to the size of the feature sets on the chips. The .13 micron technology promises better speeds and lower costs than past standards, like .15 micron.

    ATI's chief competitor, Nvidia Corp. (nasdaq: NVDA - news - people), is in the process of releasing its high- end chip, the GeForce FX, which is built by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co Ltd <2330.TW> on the .13 micron process. TSMC will also build ATI's chip on that process.

    Though the GeForce FX has surpassed the Radeon 9700 on some benchmarks, Rolston claimed that with R350, ATI would have the best-performing chip through at least the end of the calendar year. Such claims of higher performance are key for the graphics chip industry since the games and video applications that they drive require intense processing power.

    While declining to discuss specific prices for the R350 or the new Radeon chip, the executive noted that pricing pressures were weighing on the industry.

    "There's a lot of concern about pricing, there's a lot of attention to pricing," he said.

    One of ATI's more notable partnerships is with video game company Nintendo Co Ltd <7974.OS> for its GameCube game console, and Rolston said ATI was looking at pursuing deals for future versions of both that console and Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox console, which uses Nvidia technology.

    "We would consider both of those to be of great interest," he said, adding that they "have ongoing discussion with both of those players."

    Nvidia recently settled a dispute with Microsoft over pricing of its chips for the Xbox, a settlement that boosted Nvidia's revenue, and Nvidia said the two sides planned to work together on future technology.

    Neither Microsoft nor Nintendo have announced their next generation of consoles.
