Hello music person,

How are you? It's been a while since our last email.....there just hasn't
been enough good new music lately. But, have no fear, Radiant is back to
relieve you of your musical boredom. Here's some info on one of the first
great new releases of 2003:

O.S.I. - (Office Of Strategic Influence) is the title of the new album
from FATES WARNING guitarist and figurehead Jim Matheos, DREAM
THEATER/TRANSATLANTIC drum giant Mike Portnoy and keyboardist Kevin Moore
from CHROMA KEY and early in his career, Dream Theater. Although we must
be honest and say we haven't received a promo on this one yet, we feel
confident that it will be at best a great record, at worst an interesting
one, considering the artists involved. Also, Steven Wilson from PORCUPINE
TREE makes a guest appearance on vocals; this has to be a good thing.

We are now taking pre-orders for the 2 CD Limited Edition version which
contains an extra CD with 3 audio tracks and a CDROM video entitled
"Documentary of the Recording." Of course, the packaging will be
spectacular as with all Inside/Out's LE versions. You know the deal.

The music enclosed on this breathtaking debut, if anything, bears most
prominently the stamp of Costa Rican resident Kevin Moore, which is a good
omen, given that Kevin left Dream Theater due to a growing alienation with
progressive metal, Moore subsequently proving himself on two murky and
beautiful records as Chroma Key. The end result is the X-spot on a
creative treasure map that sees the music wend its way from a comfortable
progressive metal side project conceived by Jim, through the vast
keyboard, sample, editing and vocal landscape that is Moore's mind, the
dotted line ceasing at a conundrum of a record that will as likely appeal
to fans of Porcupine Tree, Pink Floyd, David Sylvian, Radiohead and Wire
as it will, the followers of Fates, Dream Theater, Vanden Plas, Pain Of
Salvation or Symphony X.

Jim reiterates the above characterization of the journey. "This thing has
taken so many turns from the inception to the final product. It was going
to go in the direction of a prog metal-type thing. It was really my idea
as a side project to do something outside of Fates. Mike and I wanted to
work together for a long time so we talked about doing this and it was
going to be in the prog metal mold. There was a 25 minutes song, a lot of
those parts of which became these songs. I think Mike and I still have
our prog roots and like that kind of music and Kevin has kind of gotten
away from that. And that part of his personality and his style really took
hold of the music and brought it in a different direction"

Jim on Mike: "I think he did what he always does: he played his ass off
and did a great job. He's amazing. Hearing him on record and seeing him
live so many times wasn't the same as being in the studio with him and

Ziet er weer mooi uit. De muziek komt me op het eerste oor nog wel het meest Croma Key achtig over. Kevin Moore had duidelijk een grote invloed in het geheel...

Eens kijken of ik deze CD ergens op de kop kan tikken.

Ik heb O.S.I. nu een paar keer beluisterd en moet zeggen dat ik erg enthiousiast ben over dit project. De nummers worden met een luguber sfeertje opgebouwd dat op de juiste momenten met krachtige uitspattingen afgewisseld wordt. Persoonlijk vind ik de zang absoluut niet storend, hij is wat ingetogen en monotoon, wat juist perfect bij de sfeer van de plaat past.

Ik denk dat er gesproken mag worden van een geslaagde samenwerking.

Weet iemand trouwens of er meerdere albums komen, of dat dit een eenmalig project was?
