Holland will be well-represented in the final of the Champions League with Frank Rijkaard and Dennis Bergkamp being the two main figures. Arsenal also have Robin van Persie in their squad, while Barça have Gio van Bronkhorst, Mark van Bommel and Henk ten Cate on their books.
The Eredivisie is the name of the Dutch top flight and the league is ranked seventh in the world, according to the IFFHS classification. The three biggest teams in the country are Ajax from Amsterdam, PSV from Eindhoven and Feyenoord from Rotterdam. All three teams will have former players appearing in the final next week in Paris.
The Ajax school
Rijkaard and Bergkamp both began their careers with Ajax and were team-mates for two season, betwee 1986 and 1988. After winning three league titles, Rijkaard left to join AC Milan under Arrigo Sacchi and went on to lift two European Cups with the Italian giants. He then returned to Holland to lift the trophy again with Ajax. Bergkamp chose the same city to move to when leaving the Amsterdam club, and signed for Inter.
Their relationship continued with the national team. In 1998, Rijkaard worked as a coach under Guus Hiddink before taking over the reins in 2000 as he became boss of the Netherlands side. Now Rijkaard and Bergkamp meet again in Paris with the former dreaming of becoming one of the few to have won the trophy as a player and a coach, while the Gunners' star is hoping to win the cup for the first time in his career.
Van Bommel was a key player
Philips Sport Vereniging (PSV) is on the big names in Dutch football. Such stars as Ruud Gullit, Ronald Koeman, Ronaldo, Romario and Van Bommel have all played for the Eindhoven club. Van Bommel moved to PSV in 1999 from Fortuna Sittard and became a key member of the team's midfield then last summer he transferred to FC Barcelona. Eindhoven is set to host the UEFA Cup Final this Wednesday (May 10) and Van Bommel will then represent the city in Paris a week later.
The Rotterdam connection
Both Van Bronkhorst and Van Persie were born in Rotterdam eight years apart and both realised their dream of playing for the most important club in the city, Feyenoord. In 1998, Gio moved to Glasgow in Scotland to join Rangers and then headed south to sign for Arsene Wenger's Arsenal. The full-back moved to Camp Nou in 2003. A year later Van Persie followed in his footsteps by joining the Highbury club. The pair are also team-mates for the Holland team.

Net zoals Del Horno zeker.
