Cha Cha with the Hellboys

Could this be? After years of anticipation, the Hellboys are about to release their second CD (the first will be released at a later date). Cha Cha with the Hellboys features an incredible line up of musicians: Tony Levin, Jerry Marotta, The California Guitar Trio, Tony Geballe, Bill Forth and Tom Redmond. In addition, Robert Fripp has generously contributed several Soundscapes plus a previously unreleased (1979) Frippertronics. Get this, Robert told the Hellboy Tom to use this material in any way and the band did just that! Robert also created a tasty little fifty-seven seconds of Tom is in Hell which happily will emerge from Hell on the next album.

The planned release date is January 22, 2004 and includes this internationally known line up of Hellboys hits: Cha Cha with the Hellboys, Hellboys Blessing, Dont Tell My Wife, Chord from Hell, Children Leaving, Missed the Train, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Robert Aint Your Father.

You dont want to miss the trance inducing17:03 minutes of Missed the Train containing some of the finest Hellboys musicianship on and under the planet with notes that can be seen and are not audible.

Maar ik denk dat mijn zeer lichte voorkeur uitgaat naar 2, omdat die van begin tot eind het boeiendst is en natuurlijk ook een heel klein beetje mede door het eind

Ik heb steeds het gevoel dat ze met veel meer spelen dan daadwerkelijk het geval is en dat het af en toe te strak loopt voor een live opname, Maar met een half vooringeprogrammeerde drums en ontzettend goeie muzikanten wil ik van harte aannemen dat alles daadwerkelijk live is.

Ik heb vanavond deze ook maar weer eens uit de kast gehaald. THRaKaTTak is toch wel de meest extreme Crimson cd. Live opgenomen tijdens de tour van 95 bevat deze cd behalve 2 uitvoeringen van Thrak bijna een uur aan improvisaties.

Muzikaal gezien zou je het als voorloper van The ProjeKcts kunnen zien. Dit materiaal is echter nog een stuk ruwer. Dit is wel een cd waar je even je tanden op kan stuk bijten, het heeft even geduurd voordat ik hem echt kon waarderen.

Beetje het zelfde verhaal met cd2 van Ladies of the Road : ook allemaal achter elkaar geplakte improvs. Dat is nou een cd die mij minder kan boeien.

Overigens zijn de opnames op TRaKaTTaK weer met veel knippen en plakken samengesteld uit verschillende concerten . ( Voor de mensen die zich echt vervelen)
