A White House official on Friday night disputed former adviser Sebastian Gorka’s claim that he resigned, though did not provide any more details about his departure.
“Sebastian Gorka did not resign, but I can confirm he no longer works at the White House,” an official told The Hill.
That is in contrast to a letter Gorka wrote, published in part by The Federalist, in which he claimed he quit because he was unhappy with recent developments at the White House.
“[G]iven recent events, it is clear to me that forces that do not support the MAGA promise are — for now — ascendant within the White House,” Gorka wrote.
“As a result, the best and most effective way I can support you, Mr. President, is from outside the People’s House."
Gorka did not return a request for comment.
The aide was viewed with disdain by the national security establishment in Washington and national security adviser H.R. McMaster had been trying to force him from the White House.
Gorka was protected for some time by former chief strategist Stephen Bannon, but once Bannon was forced out by chief of staff John Kelly it seemed Gorka’s time at the White House might be short.
Bannon has since returned to Breitbart News. Gorka also once wrote for the right-wing news outlet.
