Typhoon Hato kills 12 and injures hundreds in ChinaThe death toll from powerful Typhoon Hato which is sweepng across southern China has risen to 12, with hundreds more injured.
Hato is the most powerful storm to hit the area in 53 years, packing winds of up to 99 miles per hour.
Almost 27,000 people have been evacuated to emergency shelters.
The storm made landfall at noon on Wednesday near Zhuhai city in Guangdong province.
Hong Kong has raised its typhoon warning signal to 10 - the highest level.

Officials said that of those killed, eight people died in the gambling enclave of Macau.
A further four people have been reported dead in Guangdong province, according to Chinese state media Xinhua.
