TBS won’t be returning to Beacon, New York after all.

The basic cabler is reversing its Season 3 renewal of People of Earth, cancelling the alien abduction comedy after two seasons, TVLine has confirmed. The announcement was first made by creator David Jenkins on Friday:

Just got word last night: TBS has cancelled People of Earth. Thank you to everyone who was a fan of the show and enjoyed its gentle, amiable sci-fi weirdness. It was an honor sharing this show with you. Let's do it again soon. Love you all.

Season three, which is already written, will not be shot. Season two is the last season.

People of Earth — one of TVLine’s Peak TV Treasures — starred Daily Show alum Wyatt Cenac as Ozzie Graham, a journalist investigating a support group for alien abductees. The cast also included Ana Gasteyer (Suburgatory), Oscar Nuñez (The Office), Michael Cassidy (Men at Work), Da’Vine Joy Randolph (Selfie), Brian Huskey (Veep) and Tracee Chimo (Orange Is the New Black). Greg Daniels (The Office) and Conan O’Brien served as executive producers.

A network opting to cancel a series months after renewing it is not unprecedented. HBO infamously renewed rock-and-roll drama Vinyl for a second season just days after its low-rated Feb. 2016 launch, only to reverse course just three months later. And last year, Amazon cancelled the Zelda Fitzgerald drama Z: The Beginning of Everything, after having already spent $7 million on preproduction for Season 2.

Big Bang Theory to End With Season 12, Producers Promise 'Epic' Series Finale

It all ended with a big bang, too: The Big Bang Theory will conclude its decade-plus run following the completion of its forthcoming 12th season, CBS announced Wednesday.

In a joint statement, Warner Bros. Television, CBS and Chuck Lorre Productions said, “We are forever grateful to our fans for their support of The Big Bang Theory during the past twelve seasons. We, along with the cast, writers and crew, are extremely appreciative of the show’s success and aim to deliver a final season, and series finale, that will bring The Big Bang Theory to an epic creative close.”

Pondering the hitcom’s fate back in January, Johnny Galecki said, “The only manner in which the cast has discussed wrapping [The Big Bang Theory] has been that we’re all going to be very sad when that day comes. But I think at this point everyone’s very comfortable with 12 seasons being a good time to go home and see our families.”

The final season of The Big Bang Theory will bow Monday, September 24 (8/7c) before moving to its regular time period on Thursday, September 27 (8/7c).

The series, which debuted in 2007, has received 52 Emmy nominations and 10 wins to date. When it airs its final episode in May 2019, Big Bang will end as the longest-running multi-camera series in television history, with a record-breaking 279 episodes.

Orange Is the New Black Cancelled; Season 7 to Serve as Series' Swan Song

It’s the end of an era at Netflix: The streamer announced Wednesday that Orange is the New Black — one of its first scripted shows — will conclude with Season 7 (premiering in 2019).

“After seven seasons, it’s time to be released from prison,” said series creator Jenji Cohan in a statement. “I will miss all the badass ladies of Litchfield and the incredible crew we’ve worked with. My heart is orange but… fade to black.”

The Season 6 finale featured Piper’s (Taylor Schilling) early release from Litchfield, while an earlier episode hinted at the possibility of her writing a memoir about her time in prison. Taystee, meanwhile, was found guilty for the murder of Piscatella (after the MCC guards successfully covered their tracks) and sentenced to life behind bars.

Reflecting on the series’ conclusion, Cindy Holland, Vice President of Original Content Netflix, said, “During production of Season 1, everyone involved with Orange Is The New Black felt like we knew a special secret we couldn’t wait to share with the world. Since then, we have laughed, cried, raged, and roared with the women of Litchfield, and every moment spent with them felt like borrowed time — too good to last forever/ We will be sad to say goodbye but we will definitely be going out on a high.”

Luke Cage Cancelled at Netflix

Netflix is parting ways with another superhero: The streaming service has cancelled Marvel’s Luke Cage after two seasons — and just a week after it axed Marvel’s Iron Fist — our sister site Deadline reports.

“Unfortunately, Marvel’s Luke Cage will not return for a third season,” Marvel and Netflix said in a statement. “Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is grateful to the dedicated showrunner, writers, cast and crew who brought Harlem’s hero to life for the past two seasons, and to all the fans who have supported the series.”

Season 2 of Luke Cage, starring Mike Colter as the titular superhero, debuted this past June. According to Deadline, showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker and the writers’ room were already at work on scripts for a third season, but creative differences between Netflix and the show’s team led to the end of the hero’s run.

Colter debuted as Cage on Netflix’s Jessica Jones before getting his own series. He later reprised the role in the Marvel team-up series The Defenders. The cancellation caps Luke Cage‘s run at a total of 26 episodes, and leaves Jessica Jones, The Punisher and Daredevil — which actually returns for Season 3 today — as the only three Marvel dramas still airing on Netflix.

God Friended Me, Neighborhood, Magnum Snag Full-Season Orders

CBS is going all the way with three of its rookie series, handing full-season pickups to dramas God Friended Me and Magnum P.I. and comedy The Neighborhood. A network rep declined to say how many additional episodes of each series were specifically ordered, but TVLine is hearing nine for Neighborhood and seven apiece for Magnum and God Friended Me.

God Friended Me, starring Mayor breakout Brandon Micheal Hall, debuted on Oct. 1 with an impressive 10.5 million total viewers and a 1.4 demo rating — an improvement on both Wisdom of the Crowd‘s year-ago opener (8.8 mil/1.3) and Season 1 average (7 mil/0.9). Its numbers have dipped slightly since, with last Sunday’s episode drawing 8 million viewers and a 1.1 in the demo.

The Jay Hernandez-fronted Magnum P.I. bowed last month to 8.1 million viewers and a 1.2, which was well below the 9 mil/2.0 that Kevin Can Wait/Me, Myself & I averaged in the hour a year ago. In its most recent Monday outing, the show drew 5.5 million viewers and a 0.9 rating.

Lastly, The Neighborhood, starring Cedric the Entertainer and Max Greenfield, is up 14 percent over CBS’ Monday-at-8 pm performance last season.

The Cool Kids Scores Full-Season Order

The Cool Kids‘ popularity is soaring at Fox. The network has handed the rookie retirement community comedy a full-season order. The back-nine pickup brings the series’ Season 1 episode count to 22.

The launch of Fox’s Last Man Standing-Cool Kids comedy block gave the network its most-watched Friday with entertainment in a decade. Cool Kids’ most recent episode drew a solid 4.8 million viewers and a 1.0 demo rating.

“[EP] Charlie Day has given us a show that delivers the goods – hilarious stories and impeccable timing and chemistry between its stars, David Alan Grier, Vicki Lawrence, Martin Mull and Leslie Jordan,” said Michael Thorn, Fox’s President of Entertainment. “On top of that, it has the perfect lead-in with Tim Allen and Last Man Standing. The Cool Kids are just that, and we’re thrilled they’re going to be on Fox for a full season.”

If you’re wondering about Last Man Standing‘s, er, standing, the revived comedy was initially given a 22-episode order.

Station 19: ABC Hands Grey's Anatomy Spinoff Full Season 2 Order

One week after scoring record high ratings, Station 19 has been given a big vote of confidence by ABC. The firefighter-centric Grey’s Anatomy spinoff been picked up for a full season, the network announced Friday. The move extends the series’ Season 2 episode count from 13 to 22.

Buoyed by a highly-promoted crossover with Grey’s, Station 19 last week nabbed 6.5 million total viewers and a 1.3 demo rating, rising 25 and 18 percent week-to-week to mark series highs.On average through its first two episodes, the sophomore drama is drawing 7.9 million viewers and a 1.8 demo rating in Live+3 data.

Station 19 stars Jaina Lee Ortiz as Andy Herrera, Jason George as Ben Warren, Boris Kodjoe as Captain Robert Sullivan, Grey Damon as Jack Gibson, Barrett Doss as Victoria Hughes, Alberto Frezza as Ryan Tanner, Jay Hayden as Travis Montgomery, Okieriete Onaodowan as Dean Miller, Danielle Savre as Maya Bishop and Miguel Sandoval as Pruitt Herrera.

FBI Snags Full-Season Order at CBS

Backstage tumult, be damned! CBS has picked up freshman drama FBI for a full season, the network announced Thursday. The Dick Wolf-produced procedural is this fall’s second rookie series to snag full-season bragging rights, joining NBC’s New Amsterdam (which earned the honor on Wednesday). CBS declined to say exactly how many additional episodes have been ordered beyond the initial 13.

The vote of confidence for FBI comes a day after news broke that the show was undergoing its third showrunner switch (its second in just three months). The series has also experienced turnover on-screen, with CSI: NY vet Sela Ward replacing Connie Nielsen beginning with Episode 2.

FBI premiered last month to 10.1 million total viewers and a 1.3 rating, and in Week 2 dipped just two tenths in the demo — the smallest such decline this fall for a freshman drama. (TVLine readers gave the crime drama’s debut an average grade of “B,” with 81 percent saying they would keep watching.) Most recently it drew 9.1 million viewers and a 1.0 rating, slipping below time slot predecessor Bull‘s Season 2 average (10.6 mil/1.2).

Suits to End With Season 9

USA Network is packing up Suits: The network announced Wednesday that it has renewed the venerable legal drama for a ninth and final season. Production on the 10-episode farewell season will begin later this year.

The current eighth season — which resumes tonight on USA; get scoop here — has gone through something of a revamp following the departures of original series stars Patrick J. Adams and Meghan Markle in Season 7. Grey’s Anatomy vet Katherine Heigl joined the ensemble as lawyer Samantha Wheeler, while Amanda Schull (aka newly promoted senior partner Katrina Bennett) was upped to series regular.

A USA rep confirms to TVLine that Suits’ current crop of regulars are all set to return for Season 9.

Suits creator Aaron Korsh released the following statement about the series’ imminent conclusion:

“Though I know it isn’t true, it seems like only yesterday USA Network took a chance on an unestablished writer’s very first hour long script. These days that’s a common thing, but 47 years ago when I first wrote the Untitled Korsh Project, nobody did it. Nobody except the people at USA and [Universal Cable Productions]. First and foremost I would like to thank Alex Sepiol and Dennis Kim, without whom Suits would never have gotten made. I also cannot thank Bill McGoldrick, Jeff Wachtel, Bonnie Hammer, Chris McCumber, Ted Chervin, Dave Bartis, Gene Klein, Doug Liman, Dawn Olmstead and everyone at the network and studio enough for their dedication and support throughout the years. And to the exceptional writers, cast and crew — thank you for your passion and devotion, without which, Suits would be nothing. Although Suits is coming to an end, the franchise will live on: Spinoff series Pearson, headlined by Gina Torres, is slated to debut later this year. The offshoot follows Torres’ former lawyer Jessica Pearson, who has relocated from New York City to Chicago to enter the dirty world of politics.
