The eurozone has made political errors that were “not acceptable” and have left it dangerously exposed to economic storms, according to the International Monetary Fund.
The sharp criticism of how the single currency is managed marked a step-up in the language used by IMF chief Christine Lagarde.
The Washington-based lender of last resort has long decried the lack of true monetary, fiscal and banking union in the eurozone, saying the situation left it vulnerable to external shocks.
Ms Lagarde, speaking at the French central bank in Paris on Thursday, said eurozone banks were “not safe enough” from the peril of another financial crisis.
