Bron.quote:Pedrosa to join Rossi at Yamaha, Vińales to remain at Suzuki?
Dani Pedrosa may be set to make an incredible shift from Honda to Yamaha, according to MCN’s sources within the MotoGP paddock. The Spaniard looks set to make the move from the Repsol Honda squad after an incredible eleven seasons, after talks with Maverick Vińales to replace Jorge Lorenzo fell through.
Vińales was believed to be deep in talks with the Movistar Yamaha squad to replace the departing Lorenzo, but with talks believed to have fallen through after hardball salary negotiations, Pedrosa now looks to make the move instead.
In theory the move could be perfect for Yamaha, replacing a rider with a very similar riding style in the shape of Lorenzo. Pedrosa’s reputation as the perfect teammate could well mean that he is the ideal option to back Valentino Rossi’s remaining two years in the sport.
Pedrosa’s move would also end one of the longest relationships in MotoGP – and may well open the door for British rider Cal Crutchlow to have a second go as a factory rider. The Brit would well be in the running to replace Pedrosa if the move comes through, thanks to his relationship with the manufacturer.

Crutchlow bij Repsol-Honda lijkt me wel gaaf jaquote:
quote:Jonas Folger is set to join the Monster Yamaha Tech3 squad for 2017 with an optional one-year extension.
Monster Yamaha Tech3 Team are excited to announce the signing of Moto2™ front-runner and bright prospect, Jonas Folger for the future. The 22-year old has been competing in the World Championship since 2008 and he has since battled to 16 podiums and four race victories across all classes. The young Bavarian from Mūhldorf, who comes off the back of a second place finish at the previous GP in Jerez, will get his first taste of the Yamaha YZR-M1 MotoGP™ bike at the post season-finale Valencia test in November. The Monster Yamaha Tech3 Team are delighted to announce the new signing for the 2017 season, which includes the option for an additional year for the promising youngster.
Jonas Folger: “I am super excited about the news and I still can’t believe this is happening. I have been racing for years in the motorcycling World Championship and to make the move up to the premier class is a dream come true plus I'd like to thank all my sponsors that have stuck by me all these years. Furthermore, it’s an honour to make this step with Yamaha, Hervé Poncharal and Tech3 team who have such a long and deep history in the paddock. I will try my absolute best to repay the faith the team has put in me, and I’m really looking forward to the new adventure. However, I will remain completely focused for the rest of the year in the intermediate class but I can’t wait for Valencia where I will sample the Yamaha YZR-M1 for the first time.”
Hervé Poncharal: “It’s always a very important and tough decision to make when it’s time for us to choose a young rider to start his career in the MotoGP class. We have been thinking a lot about who had the best profile to replace Brad who has done a great job with Tech3 for four years and is now ready to move to a full factory team. Having thoroughly checked all the names and details of the young riders in various championships, the name Jonas Folger came out on top. He’s a nice person, very fast and he is going to have a strong season in Moto2 this year, where he hopefully will win the title which would be the dream situation. I am really pleased to announce that Jonas will join us before our home GP in Le Mans. It may be difficult to predict what will happen, as some riders adapt instantly whilst others need some time, but I am certain that he will be fast, have fun and become a strong Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider. I’d like to welcome him and I want to assure Jonas that the whole team and Yamaha Factory Racing are very happy that he will join us and for sure, everyone will do their best to assist him in moving forward in the top class.”
Bronquote:Scoop!
The news, published by Nadia Tronchoni of respected Spanish newspaper El Pais (link is external), is that Dani Pedrosa has already agreed terms with Yamaha for 2017 and 2018.
Tronchoni – arguably the best journalist in the MotoGP paddock, both extremely knowledgeable and extraordinarily reliable – wrote as fact what Simon Patterson of MCN had reported earlier in the week (link is external). Whereas Patterson's sources had told him only that Pedrosa's switch to Yamaha was being very seriously considered, Tronchoni asserts that the deal is done. Understandably in such a sensitive situation, neither journalist revealed their sources.
Vińales may have ended up as a victim of his own hype. The young Spaniard is clearly incredibly talented, but he has neither completely outclassed his teammate, nor scored a MotoGP podium. Andrea Dovizioso's manager, the ever thoughtful Simone Battistella, told GPOne that the current Silly Season was distorting the rider market (link is external). "[Vińales] is strong, but he is overvalued in the current market," Battistella said. "There are only a few strong young riders. The same is true for Alex Rins. At the moment, there are three groups of riders: the top group, 30 years of age and older, Iannone, who is 27, and then the rest. The only truly great young rider is Marc Mįrquez."
Dani Pedrosa at Yamaha leaves Maverick Vińales at Suzuki, and opens up a new front of speculation over who will take the second seat in Repsol Honda. MCN had earlier reported that Cal Crutchlow could get the seat, and given the current state of the market, that may not be so far off the mark. In part due to a lack of alternatives: when I spoke to a senior Honda source at Jerez, they told me that neither Maverick Vińales nor Alex Rins had done enough to impress them. Jack Miller is in a similar situation, despite having an HRC contract. The Australian is suffering with a lingering ankle injury, and has failed to impress so far this year.
That second Repsol seat could come down to a question of who is available. Andrea Iannone is fast, but has a number of black marks against his name, with the incident at Argentina as the most obvious example. Pol Espargaro is desperate to get onto a Honda, and would love a shot at the Repsol seat, but has yet to demonstrate beyond all doubt that he has earned. Michael van der Mark has been impressive in World Superbikes, but the leap from WSBK straight into a factory MotoGP seat is a massive step. Reigning WorldSBK champion Jonathan Rea would be capable of making the jump, but he seems to have given up on the idea of a MotoGP ride.
