Since there are no real native english speakers in this section, I think it's nice to talk a bit about authors whose works you've read in english.

I myself am partial to the writers of the beat generation burroughs, keroauc but also some writers that were a bit prior to that like henry miller (and celine... ) Also the novels by Charles Bukowski are among my favorites.

What are your favorite authors in the english language.

And what dutch writer would you propose to our international friends to find translations of.

In the last section I would definetely say W.F. Hermans.

Sadly sir Terry Pratchett died last year and I refuse to call a corpse my favourite author, so I'll have to choose between the following;
- Neil Gaiman (American gods)
- China Mieville (UnLunDun)
- Danielewski (House of leaves)

Guess I'll go with Gaiman (Anansi boys) then.

And as to Dutch authors .... biologists make good writers as they are trained to really observe things, so either;
- Midas Dekkers
or
- Maarten 't Hart
but I don't know if their works have been translated?

Joe Abercrombie. His writing is a combination of dark/gritty humour and the 'everyone dies or can be bad'-principle applied by GRRM. The standalone novel 'The Heroes' is worth recommending, as is 'Best Served Cold'.

Furthermore I did enjoy reading the works of Scott Lynch and Steven Erikson, although the quality of writing and the story varies from time to time.

I do not read a lot anymore (nothing tbh) and what I used to read was not exactly literature :')

That being said, favorite authors were Stephen King, John Grisham and Clive Barker (the latter known for Hellraiser). Oh and I really enjoyed the Artemis Fowl series written by Eoin Colfer.

I also read a lot of Ludlum and Tom Clancy.

My favorite is probably Isaac Asimov. His Foundation and Robot series are both brilliant.

Foundation was written in the 50's, yet it reads like it was written recently. Asimov was a visionary.

And of course:

Ah yes, Sacks. I loved 'the man who mistook his wife for a hat'. Very much recommended.

Hmm, this proves to be a rather difficult question... the more I'm contemplating about it, the more names pop up.

In the end I decided to stick with Douglas Coupland, given that it was due to one of his novels (Microserfs) that I decided to wander into the wonderful world of IT.

Honorable mentions:
- Thomas Harris - the author who gave us Hannibal Lecter, need I say more?
- Neal Stephenson
- Ernest Cline
- Douglas Adams
- Michael Crichton
- Roald Dahl

Translate Herman Brusselmans.

Dick Bruna has written a marvelous series of books about a white rabbit who takes the reader on an existentialistic journey by doing everyday activities. She visits the dentist, goes to the beach to ponder her existence, and when she's at the zoo she realizes that she is actually the one behind bars.

The books touch upon the themes of life, death, religion, God, pain, loss and sandcastles.
With bloody fists I'll batter like a ten ton hammer, son.
