I've found the most Useless Discussion ever: what system do you prefer? The inferiour imperial system, like the countries who use them or the superiour metric system, so the measurements do make sense?

Go.

(Yes, just like the dutch topics, my opinion is just for fun)

Metric.
Imperial is way to complicated, 3 feet in a yard, 12 inches in a foot, inches divided in quarters and eights.

I'm a (math) teacher, and explaining the metric system to the kids is a tough thing to do. But teaching them the imperial system is an absolute nightmare, I guess.

Well i guess it's a hard change for them just like the patat vs friet discussion, we all know it is friet but still people say it's not. So just let them mind their own bussiness and everything will be alright

The cost of the mission was $327.6 million total for the orbiter and lander

However, on September 23, 1999, communication with the spacecraft was lost as the spacecraft went into orbital insertion, due to ground-based computer software which produced output in non-SI units of pound-seconds (lbf s) instead of the metric units of newton-seconds (N s) specified in the contract between NASA and Lockheed. The spacecraft encountered Mars on a trajectory that brought it too close to the planet, causing it to pass through the upper atmosphere and disintegrate.

In the construction industry in the Netherland, and worldwide, we still use English standard measurements. They are converted to the metric system.

As long as it's restricted to just inches (which are fairly easy to convert from top of ones head anyway), I'd say it's doable :P.

What's even more confusing is the way clothing is marketed. It seems each country uses its own systems parallel to each other, using different "measurements" for different types of clothing. It's a complete mess and hardly anyone can make sense of it _O-.

Also, when Canada switched from imperial to metric back in 1983, the switch contributed in an event that turned a Boeing 767 into a glider.

And aviation still uses feet to measure altitudes, and (nautical) miles for distances. Not to be confused with imperial miles.

Imperal system of course. It's logical, because there are 12 inches in a foot.
If you take one third of a foot, you have 12/3=4 inches. In the metric system, a third of an meter would be 33.33... centimeters.
Everyone who likes the metric system instead, must be a snobby and chauvinistic Frenchman.

In my business we use both systems and both it has its (dis)advantages.
The bad thing is I need double the amount of wrenches.
The imperial definition of a nautical mile is one minute of an arc projected over the planet (1 degree is 60 minutes), which is far more convenient making calculations than using the metric system.

Most people still use imperial here, even the kids born after 1983. Mostly for distances (miles), lengths (feet/inches), surface area (square feet, sections) and in food preparation (tablespoon/cups).

It took me about 8 years to finally get the hang of it... but sadly I'm now converted myself and think in feet and cups. Crap.

So you use miles for distances, even though the signing is in kilometers. That must be confusing. Same goes for the other stuff, mixing metric and imperial isn't making life any easier.
pi_160166385
The metric system is obviously the better system because contratry to the imperial system it actually makes sense.
