Basically the government admitting the UFO situation is them relinquishing control, at least psychologically, in the eyes of the public. This is all important. They appear powerless. This undermines them.
A government only holds power by a tissue thin structure of tacit social sanction. We have seen time and time again in recent history how this can be torn and broken, and the public react unconventionally in stressful situations. It is vital for any government that they maintain the appearance of control, even if they don't actually have it. That's if they want to keep their phoney baloney jobs. You gotta remember that these are people who actually, at the end of the day, are mostly just trying to keep their fucking jobs.
Secondly they have to admit they've been lying to the public for 70 years.
Beyond all this, any Western government is a collection of factions, basically, that work like the parts of a dysfunctional machine. There's no one motivation or ideology motivating the whole thing, and none of them will totally agree on any course of action at any given time. That's why government actions are usually controversially unilateral, which leads to a change in the bureaucratic leadership usually, or a compromise between opposing forces, which is mostly never fully satisfactory or effective.
With the UFO situation, we don't know which groups have vested interest in the subject in the US government, but we know some have been researching UFO activity seriously since WWII. We know they've been trying to stymie outside UFO research, as if they are trying to get to some prize before anyone else. In this scenario, there's no chance of such factions agreeing to disclosure.
Other groups or individuals in government may want it, but they don't necessarily have the power or ability to make it happen. Given the above scenario and the length of time these intelligence groups have been sitting on the data, it doesn't seem at all likely that they would willingly allow another bureaucratic wing to expose their treasure.

Ik postte een paar jaar terug ook heel veel over het UFO- onderwerp maar de debunkers en de slappe moderatie hebben voor mij het plezier van het posten of Fok weggenomen.

Deze sightings gaan over voorwerpen die bijv. vanuit stilstand met enorme snelheid kunnen wegschieten, die haakse bochten kunnen maken op grote snelheid en die vlak boven de grond met enorme snelheid kunnen vliegen zonder geluid te maken of duidelijk lucht te verplaatsen zoals je zou mogen verwachten.

Deze onderstaande foto wordt getoond in de documentaire over Hessdalen en wordt daarin besproken door de wetenschappers die de foto hebben gemaakt. De foto hieronder is gemaakt met een sluitertijd van 30 seconden. In de 30 seconden zie je de lichten op een onnatuurlijke manier door de lucht bewegen. Het licht is tegelijkertijd geanalyseerd en op de foto zie je de spectraalanalyse staan. Zoals je ziet is deze erg netjes, er lopen geen kleuren in elkaar over.
Dit betekent dat de lichten niet het gevolg kunnen zijn van gasverbranding. De wetenschappers denken dat de lichten een plasma zijn en het interessante daaraan, is dat het bijeen moet worden gehouden door een sterk magnetisch veld. Ook zijn de lichten voor langere periodes waargenomen op radar dus de wetenschappers concluderen dat het solide objecten zijn. Koppel daaraan nog de sightings van duidelijke vliegende schotels in de decennia voor deze foto, door geloofwaardige getuigen die wonen in Hessdalen en je hebt een erg intrigerende foto te pakken in mijn ogen:

BUDAPEST, Hungary - A military pilot recorded a spectacular video of a silver disk object on September 29, 2001. The craft was flying to his left side and then moved very fast past him in the clouds as can be seen in the video.
"I was on a flight over Budapest, Hungary," said the pilot, who has requested that his name be withheld until the official inquiry by the Hungarian Ministry of Defence is complete.
"To my left I saw a bright metal aircraft that was the shape of a perfect disk. I was careful to film the object, not to try and chase it since it I could not match its speed. As I was flying a reconnaisance aircraft, I got the idea to film it and used our equipment."
Officials at the Ministry of Defence would not answer questions about the video when asked and warned that officially they have no comment. Despite the denial, when informed of the pilot's name, they did acknowledge that the he was a real air force pilot and that it was true that he flew photo reconnaisance airplanes.
The pilot considers the video he made to be his property and not the Hungarian governments as he was flying the plane while not on duty and was transporting it as a favor to save the government money. He has now hired an attorney and wants the video to be released to the public. He hopes the release of a few frames will make this happen.
