Incident: Jet Airways B738 at Trivandrum on Aug 18th 2015, landed below required final fuel reserve on 7th approach
A Jet Airways Boeing 737-800, registration VT-JFA performing flight 9W-555 (dep Aug 17th) from Doha (Qatar) to Kochin (India) with 142 passengers and 8 crew, was on approach to Kochin and went around three times due to weather. Following the third go-around the crew declared fuel emergency and diverted to Thiruvananthapuram (in India often also referred to as short "Trivandrum"), located about 95nm south of Kochin, where the aircraft again needed to go around three times before managing a safe landing on the fourth approach.
On Aug 21st 2015 India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) reported the aircraft landed with just 270kg/600lbs of fuel left, where the required minimum fuel reserve would have been around 1500kg/3300lbs. The aircraft had gone around 3 times in Kochin due to bad weather, the crew then decided to divert to Trivandrum, which had poor weather conditions, too, and managed a landing there only on the 4th attempt. Both pilots have been suspended pending investigation. The DGCA reported they are looking into the airline's fueling policy as well as into the weather reports and why the crew diverted to Trivandrum.

Ze hebben dit jaar maar 4 kisten voor de long-haul operatie, (3x787-8, 1x767-300ER). Vorig jaar waren dat er 5 (1x787-8, 4x767-300ER). Waarbij ze er ook nog eens 2x een etmaal per week een toestel kwijt zijn aan JAF. Voordeel voor TUI is wat ze hebben meer vliegt en dus meer oplevert. Nadeel is dat de speelruimte deze zomer 0,0 is. Zodra een van de long-haulkisten een probleem heeft dat niet binnen 2 uur is op te lossen (een klapband, een geopende armed deur, etc) dan loopt de boel dus al snel in de soep.quote:

En door het ontbreken van een 5e wide body zet dat ook druk op de short-haul, daarom dit jaar dus 3½ toestel lease.
Dat 5e toestel vliegt nu short-haul rondjes voor JAF (PH-OYJ (nu OO-JNL)) en er gaan al geruchten dat het toestel in het najaar weer terug komt naar Arke.

KL605 is vandaag geannuleerd. Dat gaat dan over een van de core routes, al jaren, van KLM. Weet iemand wat er aan de hand was? Ik krijg een beetje de indruk dat de 74's momenteel heel veel worden ingezet. Misschien iets teveel?

De BFT is naar LAX vertrokken als KL601. Het zijn meestal de BFI en BFO waar FR moeite mee heeft. De -T werd vanmorgen als BFR getoond. Plane Finder had het wel goed.quote:

I hope you can see this because I'm doing it as hard as I can.
Als je op de 24 landt (en dat mag alleen als je de approach op de 27 of de 04 doet en 'circled' of een break-off doet naar de 06) en je remt niet zo snel dan moet je keren op de keerlus aan het einde. Ik kan me zomaar voorstellen dat dat niet werkt voor een A380.

VOCALIST BRUCE DICKINSON TO CAPTAIN AND PILOT A BOEING 747-400 JUMBO JET TO PLAY IN SIX OF THE SEVEN CONTINENTS TRAVELLING OVER 55,000 MILES (88,500km) AROUND THE GLOBE
IRON MAIDEN, whose new studio album The Book of Souls, their first for 5 years, will be released worldwide next week on Sept 4, are taking touring to a new level using a Boeing 747-400 Jumbo Jet (aka Queen of the Skies) for their World Tour next year. Vocalist Bruce Dickinson is currently in training for his licence to fly the massive four engine jet, which is almost twice the size and over three times the weight of the Boeing 757 used on previous tours in 2008/9/11 (see the comparison grid below of the Evolution of Ed Force One). The new Ed Force One will take the band, crew and over 12 tons of equipment more than 55,000 miles (88,500km) around the planet with concerts in six of the seven continents (Australasia, Asia, North and South America, Africa and Europe) with The Book of Souls World Tour 2016 expected to visit around 35 countries.
Details of the precise schedule are currently being finalised and we will commence announcements of specific dates for the different territories in a few weeks’ time. However we can reveal that The Book Of Souls World Tour will open in the U.S.A in late February with Ed Force One flying in for three shows before, in early March, heading into Central America visiting MEXICO, followed by a much anticipated first ever concert in EL SALVADOR and a return to COSTA RICA. Ed Force One then proceeds into South America for concerts in ARGENTINA, CHILE and a number of shows in BRAZIL before flying back to the USA at the end of March for ten more cities covering the USA and, of course, CANADA in the first two weeks of April.
A long awaited return to JAPAN follows later in April, and then the band are delighted to be playing their first ever shows in CHINA before heading to NEW ZEALAND and AUSTRALIA for a comprehensive tour during the first half of May. Shows in SOUTH AFRICA, Maiden’s first visit there with Bruce, will be the last port of call before Ed Force One heads to EUROPE for a very extensive tour starting in late May and finishing in early August. This will the first time Ed Force One has ever been used on any European Tour dates (other than Bruce’s Fan Club trips to shows) and will provide transport there for at least for the first few weeks.
Bruce Dickinson comments,
“When the opportunity arose from my friends at Air Atlanta Icelandic to lease a 747 for The Book of Souls World Tour, of course we jumped at the chance, who wouldn’t? The greatest benefit of travelling in a 747 is that because of its colossal size and freight capacity we can carry our stage production and all our stage equipment and desks in the cargo hold without having to make any of the immense structural modifications needed to do this on the previous 757, the extent of which fans will have noted on the Flight 666 DVD. Although in reality we cannot carry much more gear the savings in complexity, time and cost make using the 747 even more practical. All we will need to do is “paint” it and move a few seats around, with the added advantage that there is much more room for band and crew – our Krew can almost get a row of seats each to catch up on sleep on the flights! Furthermore, it is marginally faster 0.85 MACH and the range of around 7000NM (13,000 km) is much greater which means we will not have to make the refuelling stops we needed to with the 757.
“However, even though we have worked out the logistics of taking a plane of that immense size out on tour, I still have to learn to fly it before we can go anywhere! So, I’m currently doing my training to qualify as a pilot and Captain on a Boeing 747. I’m doing this at Cardiff Aviation, my aircraft maintenance facility in Wales, where we recently took possession of a rather splendid 747 simulator which I can’t wait to get practising on!

The 747 is the world’s most recognisable airliner on account of its distinctive hump. With its impressive dimensions of 70.7m (232ft) length, 19.4m (63.6ft) height and a jaw-dropping wing span of 64.4m (211ft) this double-decker aircraft has a range of 13,450km (7,262nm).

Over 747's gesproken; de eerste 747-8i voor Korean Air is vandaag geleverd.
In totaal hebben zullen ze 10 kisten ontvangen; de 2e kist voerde de afgelopen dagen al wat tests uit en nog een drietal kisten staan op de final assembly line.
Naast de 747-8i hebben ze ook 7 747-8F's besteld waarvan er 6 al zijn geleverd.
Hiermee is het de eerste maatschappij die beide varianten in gebruik heeft.
Daarnaast hebben ze nog 24 747-400 in dienst; 13 passagierskisten en 11 vrachtvliegtuigen.
De nieuwe 747-8i's en 777-300ER's (waarvan nog een deel geleverd moet worden) moeten op termijn de 747-400's vervangen; deze zouden in 2017 de vloot verlaten moeten hebben.
Korean Air is de derde luchtvaartmaatschappij die de 747-8i ontvangt; na Lufthansa (april 2012) en
Air China (september 2014).
Transaero Airlines zou hun eerste 747-8i afgelopen augustus al moeten ontvangen maar dit is uitgesteld tot volgend jaar. De kisten van hen zullen zolang opgeslagen worden.
Als de 10 stuks voor Korean Air en de 4 stuks voor Transaero geleverd zijn ziet het er donker uit voor de passagiersvariant; alle 49 bestelde varianten (op 1 BBJ na) zijn dan geleverd.
Van de vrachtvarianten staan nog 14 orders open volgens de officiéle orderlijst van Boeing (per juli).
Hier staan overigens niet opties e.d. op en dus ook niet de recentelijke Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
van AirBridgeCargo voor 20 747-8F's in.
De eerste commerciële vlucht voor de nieuwe 747-8i zal plaatsvinden op 2 september naar Frankfurt.
