http://paddocktalk.com/news/html/story-254379.htmlquote:The hospital in Lausanne, Switzerland, has admitted F1 legend Michael Schumacher could be there for the "long haul".
News that the great German had left Grenoble, where he has been in intensive care since his skiing fall in late December, and is no longer in a coma, was met with elation the world over.
But Britain's Telegraph newspaper cited a source close to the Schumacher family - who are otherwise fiercely guarding the former Ferrari and Mercedes driver's privacy - as confirming the 45-year-old is 'drifting in and out of consciousness'.
And Darcy Christen, the Lausanne university hospital's head of media, confirmed that Schumacher's stay "won't be days. It could be for the long haul".
"The transfer doesn't mean that his condition improved markedly in the last few weeks.
"He is still going in and out of consciousness but he is having more moments of consciousness more regularly than in April. He certainly can't talk but there is some degree of communication.
"His doctors and family speak to him but he gets tired very quickly and needs a lot of rest. So this is kept to a minimum," he added.
Italy's La Repubblica newspaper also quoted hospital sources as revealing that Schumacher had been moved from Grenoble to be closer to his home in Switzerland, and because he no longer needs to be in intensive care.
"It will take a few days for him to stabilise completely, after the transfer," the hospital sources reportedly said. "Then the rehabilitation will begin."
The report also said Schumacher's moments of consciousness are brief, but that he is sometimes able to communicate by using his eyes.
"It will be a very long journey, and it is hard to say what will be the outcome," Christen said. "Whatever happens, it will take a lot of patience."
He said Lausanne's neurology department is headed by field leader Professor Richard Frackowiak, and is one of the best-equipped and modern in the world.
"It combines care and research in the best way," said Christen. "There is no better place for Schumacher at this time."

Earlier, it was reported that the Formula 1 Commission – involving the FIA, Bernie Ecclestone, the teams and other key stakeholders – voted through the proposal to cut Friday morning practice from next year’s race weekend format. But German correspondent Michael Schmidt reveals otherwise.
“The shorter GP weekend failed,” he wrote on Friday, “due to opposition from the (race) organisers and the big teams that had earlier agreed.”
And that’s not the only proposal that hit the dust at Ecclestone’s Biggin Hill airport, Schmidt explained.
“With one exception,” he said, “every proposal was rejected by the 26-member panel.”
The proposed ban on tyre warmers was another victim of Wednesday’s meeting, but Pirelli has offered to pay teams that run its logo on the warmers next year ¤200,000 each.
So, the only cost-cutting done for 2015 and beyond was in the already tightly-restricted area of testing. All pre-season testing will now take place in Europe, as Bahrain was ruled too expensive a destination.
The eight days of in-season testing have been reduced to four in 2015, with two days reserved for young drivers. And in 2016, winter testing will shrink from twelve to just eight days, with a total in-season testing ban to once again be enforced.
A team insider is quoted as saying: “Once again we have failed to save [money], but at least the crazy idea of the shorter weekend is gone.” (GMM)

But Horner wants Renault to address its reliability issues at least, after Sebastian Vettel suffered another non-finish in Austria.
"They've got issues with reliability as well as performance," he said. "There are certain things that still can be done this year.
"The most important thing is really to get next year right as well now."

By Jonathan Noble
With the Red Bull Ring Formula 1 weekend having once again highlighted the engine deficit Ferrari has to Mercedes, Raikkonen's hopes of a decent haul of points were wrecked by him having to have back off early.
The Finn reckons that in Ferrari's current situation, it is essential that it can push its car to the maximum throughout every grand prix to have any hope of a good result.
"We had to go down [on the engine settings] but also after two laps I had brake issues," explained the Finn, who eventually finished 10th.
"They asked me to cool the brakes but I was trying to fight against the other guys. So it was quite difficult after two laps being asked to slow down for brake issues.
"We know those kinds of things should not be happening, and we have to fix them. We cannot go into the race and start slowing down after two laps because of issues like that.
"We are not fast enough for giving up points, so there is more work to do to get there."
When asked how much of a step forward Ferrari had made since the start of the 2014 F1 campaign, Raikkonen said: "I think we are more or less in the same place.
"I think it depends a lot to do with the layout of the circuit, how it is for each team.
"[Austria] has long straights and the Mercedes powered cars seem to be working. But we have improved for sure in various places, and the car is much more together from the first race.
"But we need much bigger improvements on the engine and aero and those kind of things to get where the Mercedes guys are."
